A Ryzen 5 8645HS, a GeForce RTX 4060 and 16 GB of RAM offer mid-range gaming power and ensure great battery life. The laptop’s hardware is rounded off by a 16:10 14.5-inch panel (2.5K, 120Hz and G-Sync support) and a USB4 port. The entire package is available for €1,449 (around US$1,600).

The Acer Nitro 14 offers great performance for the price. It’s a solid deal compared to other 14-inch gaming laptops with RTX 4060 hardware, like the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 and HP Omen Transcend 14. The Acer Nitro 14 costs hundreds of dollars less than those machines. I love seeing high-performing budget gaming laptops around the $1,000 mark. You don’t need the fanciest, most expensive laptop to have a great gaming experience, and this machine proves it. You do have to make some compromises, and you’ll find features like OLED screens, all-metal construction, snappier keyboards, and higher-resolution webcams on more expensive machines. But if your main priorities are speedy gaming performance at a low price, this machine is a good value.

Unlike the competition, which has tried — not without success — to create a new breed of 14in discrete GPU laptops, Acer has just made a compact gaming laptop. That’s resulted in a cheaper machine that can still run AAA games at higher frame rates. The OLED screens and speaker systems on the Omen Transcend 14 and Lenovo Legion Slim 5 are better, but the Nitro 14 is a fair bit cheaper. The model with an RTX 4060, Ryzen 7 8845HS CPU, Full HD 120Hz screen, 16GB of RAM and 1TB SSD will only set you back £1,399 and should provide a very similar user experience to the fully loaded model I was sent to test. That’s pretty compelling value for a compact, capable gaming laptop such as this.

Well folks, if you are often on the go and you want to play heavy games after work, the Acer Nitro 14 (AN14-41) ticks a lot of checkmarks in this category. The Zen 4 CPUs are powerful enough for 3D rendering and the optional GeForce RTX with its 110W TGP is ready for heavy-duty gaming. The surprisingly big cooling allows high CPU and GPU clocks longer loads (4.67 GHz / 2600 MHz) and that’s why the overall performance is great. The SSD of our laptop is snappy. It reaches 7100 / 6800 MB/s read and write speed in Crystal Disk Mark – not too shabby! The high performance has its downside – toasty internals during long stress. However, under gaming in “Turbo” mode, the WASD section doesn’t feel hot and the fans aren’t unbearably noisy.

The Acer Nitro 14 is a decent, compact performer backed by a stellar CPU and good enough gaming performance in 1080p. However, its higher-than-average price tag, poor display, and lacking physical design make it difficult to recommend compared to other options in the same form factor.

The Acer Nitro 14 (2024) is a decent gaming laptop for 1080p gaming with a solid power core, as well as a decent 1920×1200 display and fantastic port selection. Just watch out for its meagre battery life and thin-sounding speakers. With this in mind, the Lenovo LOQ 15i may offer a tad more power, but its battery life is even an hour shorter than the Nitro 14 (2024), and Acer’s display is also much stronger in terms of colour accuracy and general performance. You may be paying a bit more than some moe budget-oriented gaming laptops, but the Nitro 14 (2024) is a solid pick overall. Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.

AMD Hawk Point (Zen 4/4c):
R5 8645HS: An upper mid-range processor (APU) of the Hawk Point family. This isn't an entirely new chip; instead, the 8645HS is a rebadged Ryzen 5 7640HS with higher clock speeds on the Ryzen AI NPU. The 8645HS was brought to life in Q4 2023 and it has 6 SMT-enabled Zen 4 cores (12 threads) running at 4.3 GHz to 5.0 GHz. The Radeon 760M iGPU is responsible for carrying out 3D calculations and similar duties.
R7 8845HS: A powerful Hawk Point family chip that saw the light of day in H2 2023. We believe the 8845HS to be an R7 7840HS in disguise but with higher clock speeds on the Ryzen AI NPU. The 8845HS features 8 cores (16 threads thanks to SMT support) running at up to 5.1 GHz. Last but not the least, the Radeon 780M serves as the integrated GPU.

71.54%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
