Reviews for the Acer Iconia One 7 B1-730
Seven times the charm. The time has come for Acer to update their Iconia One 7 budget tablet with new technology. The new machine once again runs on an Intel Atom processor, and the 7-inch IPS display offers HD resolution. Beyond that, the tablet also houses 8 GB of flash memory, a microSD slot and WLAN b/g/n. At a price of about 100 Euros (~$135), Acer's new Iconia One is a good deal.

A fairly average contender within the 7″ tablet category this. There were a few too many creaks from the chassis and it twisted all too easily – making the screen produce some strange colours. My main gripes are the sheer amount of apps pre-installed. Sure, I can understand one or two apps, but the entire Amazon suite? This isn’t a Kindle, why is it all here? And why do I need all the other additions too?

This is a 7inch Android Tablet, from the same range as the A1 I reviewed in June. This looks and feels quite different and I have not really worked out why the only thing I noticed – remember I am a man – is this this was black and the A1 was cream.

The Acer Iconia One 7 is a basic tablet that offers pretty good value given you can get one for as little as £90. If you can afford a bit more, the extra expense is worth it, but as a basic family tablet this is a decent buy.

There's no glaring flaw with the Acer Iconia One 7, and many of its shortcomings can be forgiven considering the low price. Still, the low-end Android market is as competitive as ever, and better, equally affordable options are in abundant supply. The Hisense Sero 7 Pro matches the One 7's price, but offers a better display, longer battery life, and HDMI out for mirroring media content on the big screen. The Nexus 7 is better still, but the $100 price gulf is substantial, especially in this price tier.

The $129 Acer Aspire One 7 provides a solid Android experience in an attractive and affordable package. However, to achieve this price, Acer cut some big corners, with a dull screen, subpar battery life and poor cameras. For $10 more, the ASUS MeMO Pad HD 7 offers a brighter, more colorful screen, superior cameras, much longer battery life and a slew of helpful software.

Intel Atom: The Intel Atom series is a 64-Bit (not every model supports 64bit) microprocessor for cheap and small notebooks (so called netbooks), MIDs, or UMPCs. The speciality of the new architecture is the "in order" execution (instead of the usual and faster "out of order" execution). Therefore, the transistor count of the Atom series is much lower and, thus, cheaper to produce. Furthermore, the power consumption is very low. The performance per Megahertz is therfore worse than the old Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz on par with a 1.6 GHz Atom).

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.

68%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
