The Acer Aspire E1-572-6870 ($579.99 list) is a fairly nondescript, glossy-black laptop, with a 15.6-inch screen and full-size keyboard. The Acer Aspire E1-572-6870 is a high-performing budget laptop that outlasts and outperforms rivals. It's a great choice for those value-minded users who don't mind paying a little bit more to get a little more performance.

And there's the rub: The Aspire E1-572-6870 is one of those systems that skirts the mainstream and the budget categories, and at this price or higher you really want a touch screen. With a list price of $580, the Aspire E1-572-6870 is $200 more than the Editors' Choice Dell Inspiron 15 (I15RV-6190 BLK). That makes the Dell Inspiron a much better value, since aside from performance, the two laptops are competitive, feature for feature. Yes, the Aspire E1-572-6870 lasts two hours longer on the battery rundown test and is perceptibly faster, so it earns our recommendation for budget-minded people who are impatient or want to use the system unplugged.

The Acer Aspire E1-571-6870 is a budget laptop that offers the latest Intel Haswell CPU, a comfortable keyboard and removable battery. It does lack an optical drive, the display could be a little better and the battery life is short.

Getting a 15.6-inch laptop for less than $500 with a battery life up to 4 hours is a pretty good deal and that's what you get with the Acer Aspire E1-572-6870. Having the Intel Haswell processor at this price is a nice touch, but the rest of the Aspire E1 is decidedly entry-level, making it only a good value if you just need a nice laptop for everyday tasks.

Acer has addressed many of the issues that existing with the previous Aspire E1 model with the new Aspire E1 572-6870. The big surprise is the new and faster Core i5 processor included with the system. This allowed Acer to trim some weight and thickness off the system by using a smaller battery.

I enjoyed using Acer’s Aspire E1-572-6870. The machine is blessedly quiet, and it delivered a respectable 4 hours of battery life (middle-of-the-pack performance in this roundup).

Acer delivers the computing essentials in a lightweight design, making the laptop a good choice for those on a budget. For a reasonable $499, you get 4th-generation Core i5 performance, a responsive keyboard and fairly long battery life.

Model:

In addition to compact and lightweight design, battery life is a high priority for users who are highly mobile. However, from form factor to hardware specification, generally laptop manufacturers have to sacrifice some important features that are needed by most users. Acer Aspire E1-572 is the answer for those who want a notebook with complete essential features but with a form factor that is user friendly. Acer's Aspire E1-572 features a 15.6 inch with 1366 × 768 pixels, which is adequate for the needs of basic office, browsing, multimedia, and even for light gaming. The keyboard looks comfortable enough to be used over long periods. The full-sized touchpad is accurate and responsive. Both interfaces on this notebook are optimized for the Windows 8 OS. The main advantages of the Aspire E1-572 is the use of the latest Intel 4th Gen i5 processor. It also comes with 4GB of RAM, which is average for multitasking purposes. Besides, the 500GB SATA hard drive is more than enough to store many files, multimedia contents, and games. Thanks to its power efficient processor, Acer claims that this laptop can last for almost 6 hours during general usage.

While bringing comprehensive features, this laptop has a few downsides to it. The screen quality is not great, since it has a low resolution for a 15 inch laptop. Not only the display is lacking in colors and viewing angles, it also looks washed-out. Next, the speakers are located at the bottom of the chassis, which is not optimal for the best listening experience. Even with all the features offered, the Acer Aspire E1-572 is still a budget friendly laptop which is suitable for those who need a notebook for all-round purposes, but at competitive prices.

Intel HD Graphics 4400:

ULV integrated GPU (GT2) with 20 EUs found on certain Haswell CPU models.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

4200U:

Haswell-based ULV dual-core processor clocked at 1.6 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 2.6 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4400 and a dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.

15.60":

15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.

The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.

Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.

66.43%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
