IFA 2013 | ASUS to update the FonePad tablet

The Fonepad 7 tablet is expected to receive a dual-core processor and front-facing speakers.

A few hours ago, a YouTube video showing the updated ASUS FonePad to be revealed at IFA 2013 appeared, but it was set to private just a few minutes later. Fortunately, there was enough time to spot the refreshed specs of this tablet and there is no doubt that the official confirmation will arrive later this week.

For now, these are the leaked specs of the ASUS FonePad 7:

  • Processor: dual-core 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z2560
  • Graphics accelerator: PowerVR SGX 544MP2
  • Memory/Storage: 1 GB RAM; 8 GB ROM and microSD card reader (up to 64 GB)
  • Display: 7-inch WXGA IPS with 1,280X800 pixels
  • Camera: rear 5 MP with F2.4 lens
  • Audio: stereo front speakers with SonicMaster technology
  • Operating system: Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

There are no major design changes, but internal ones may exceed expectations. For example, the rear camera is rumored to allow Full HD video capture while the updated FonePad is expected to cost less than $330

Although I have been writing about new software and hardware for almost a decade, I consider myself to be old school. I always enjoy listening to music on CD or tape instead of digital files and I will not even get into the touchscreen vs physical keys debate. However, I also enjoy new technology, as I now have the chance to take a look at the future every day. I joined the Notebookcheck crew back in 2013 and I have no plans to leave the ship anytime soon.
