ASUS FonePad now available for UK pre-orders

Its not quite the March launch that was promised back at MWC, but ASUS's Fonepad is finally nearing a release. The company's latest phone/tablet hybrid (not to be confused with the similarly named Padfone) has now been made available for pre-order, starting at just 179.99 pounds.

Featuring a 7", 1280x800 pixel IPS display, the FonePad comes in at a slim 340g and 10.4mm. It also offers 1GB of RAM, an Atom Z2420 processor and runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The device's biggest competitor may likely be Google's Nexus 7, but the FonePad does have the upper hand in offering phone capabilities despite its ominous size. 

Starting this Friday, customers can pre-order the device from UK retailers including Amazon, Carphone, Warehouse and Sainsbury, with stock expected to ship out on the 26th of April. The device is available in 16GB and 32GB versions, but the launch is limited to the UK for the time being.
