Asus VivoBook V551/S551 Haswell Ultrabook arriving soon
Although the Taiwanese manufacturer Asus has yet to officially announce its upcoming Asus VivoBook V551 Ultrabook (which will be presumably called the “S551” in Europe), there are already a few online retailers taking pre-orders for this Haswell-powered touchscreen laptop. Based on a 64-bit Windows 8 operating system, the 5.3lbs notebook is expected to make its debut at this year’s Computex trade show, which will take place between June 4th and 8th in Taipei.
Apparently, ASUSTek’s new Ultrabook will be built around an Intel HM76 chipset and powered by a fourth generation low-voltage Intel Core i7-4500U chip clocked at 1.8GHz. Furthermore, the VivoBook sports a 15.6-inch LED-backlit touch panel of 1366-by-768 pixels native resolution and an integrated DVD Burner.
Under the hood, the S551/V551 offers a 1TB hard drive backed by 24GB SSD cache, 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM and the DirectX 11 NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M Kepler GPU with 2GB of VRAM. Connectivity features reportedly include one USB 3.0 port, Wireless LAN 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 radios, an HDMI interface and an SD card reader slot.
The 21mm thick (≈ 0.83-in) VivoBook V551/S551 Ultrabook comes with a 3-cell battery (no word on battery life) and will be priced at around $1,000.
