Deal | $70 worth of PC games now free on Epic Games Store

Epic Games Store is kicking off October with two new free PC games, giving players the opportunity to add $69.98 worth of titles to their libraries for free. System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster and Buried Stars are available to claim from October 1 through October 8. System Shock 2 is normally priced at $29.99 and Buried Stars at $39.99. As with Epic's regular giveaways, players who claim the games during the promotional period can keep them in their libraries permanently.
System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is the more prominent of the two offerings, updating the 1999 action RPG from Irrational Games and Looking Glass Studios. Originally created by Ken Levine and others, the game combines first-person shooting and role-playing mechanics with immersive-sim elements and cross-play cooperative multiplayer. Its story begins aboard the Von Braun in 2114, where the player awakens from cryogenic sleep with no memory of their identity or circumstances. The ship has been overrun by deadly robots and mutants, while a rogue AI by the name of "SHODAN" has apparently seized control. Nightdive Studios released the remaster in 2025.
Buried Stars offers a very different experience. Developed by Studio Largo and Line Games Corporation, the 2020 mystery adventure takes place after a building collapses during the live broadcast of a survival audition show. Contestants and members of the production crew become trapped beneath the rubble and must investigate what happened while attempting to determine who is responsible. The game is presented as a visual novel, making its story and mystery central to the experience rather than offering extensive conventional gameplay.
As for criticism, System Shock has an 84 from Metacritic, while Buried Stars sits just below at 83 and is more suited to a certain group of gamers, namely those who enjoy heavy story-driven experiences with dialogue choices and multiple endings. In short, the two games give Epic Games Store users contrasting additions to their libraries: a remastered classic built around first-person action, RPG systems and horror, alongside a narrative-focused mystery adventure. Players need to claim both titles by October 8 to retain them permanently; once the promotion ends, they will return to their regular prices and be replaced by the next pair of free games.
