It took Volvo less than two years from signing an agreement with the Italian gigacasting press maker that Tesla uses, and the release of its first gigacast Volvo.
The new Volvo EX60 offers some of the longest range on a charge in the US, capable of covering 400 miles on the EPA test, a rather impressive feat for a premium mid-size SUV.
Volvo EX60 price and release date
- $60,000-$70,000
- May/June 2026
While Volvo previewed the EX60 at the CES 2026 expo, it has now released it officially in the US, with first deliveries scheduled for May 2026.
The starting Volvo EX60 price is set at about $60,000 for the RWD P6 version, and about $70,000 for the 400-mile AWD P12 model. In Europe, the RWD EX60 is priced at €62,990, while the 400-mile P12 is €9,000 more, and in the US the price difference is expected to be similar.
This is about thirty grand lower than a comparable AWD Tesla Model X, yet the Volvo EX60 offers 50 more miles of range, way faster charging, same acceleration, longer battery warranty, and a more premium interior.
Volvo EX60 range and battery warranty
- Up to 400 miles EPA range
- 10-year battery warranty
Unlike the Tesla Model Y, Volvo offers 10-year battery warranty for the P12 EX60, guaranteeing that it will retain at least 320 miles of range from the original battery capacity when said warranty expires. For comparison, Tesla guarantees 280 miles of range at the end of an 8-year period for a comparable Model X. Tesla only recently introduced a 10-year battery warranty for the Model Y as a paid $2,000 extra with $500 deductible.
What's even more impressive about the longest range of an SUV in its mid-size class is that the Volvo EX60 achieves 400 miles on a charge in an AWD version priced in the golden middle of premium mid-size SUVs. The EX60 comes with modern 800V powertrain and 400 kW of peak charging through the native NACS port that allows it to top up at Tesla's vast Supercharger network directly.
Needless to say, V4 Superchargers capable of delivering those peak speeds are still few and far between, but when one is available, the Volvo EX60 can add 173 miles of range for a 10-minute coffee break at the Supercharger. Volvo has also equipped the EX60 with 22 kW bi-directional charging, a much desired extra that Tesla only offers on the Cybertruck, and at 11 kW speeds at that.
Volvo is also giving away three years of free charging in Europe with the Volvo equivalent of the Tesla Wall Connector available on Amazon, but it is not clear if the same promo will be available in the US, too.
EX60 safety
Volvo being Volvo, it made the EX60 one of the safest SUVs around, too. From the gigacast body, a first for Volvo, and the array of HuginCore sensors following the changes in surroundings in real time, to the world's first multi-adaptive safety belt, the electric SUV is one of the safest vehicles on the market, tips Volvo.
Besides passenger safety, comfort has also been a priority in the EX60 development. The SUV comes with adaptive air suspension, heated and folding electric boosters in the back, as well as heated, vented, and massaging front seats.
An electrochromic panoramic roof and a Forest Light cabin projector round up a lighter, airier cabin. An optional 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system includes speakers in all headrests, while the infotainment system comes with deep Google Gemini integration and Apple Music support.
Volvo EX60 CrossCountry edition
Besides the standard models, the EX60 will be available in Volvo's storied CrossCountry edition. Issued in an excluisve Forest Green color, the EX60 CrossCountry offers more clearance and air suspension that can lower it or bump it higher when needed.
It also comes with stainless steeel skid plates, CrossCountry badging, and wider arches that fit the excluisve for the variant wheels and tires. The Volvo EX60 CrossCountry is already available in Europe, and its range is being quoted as an EPA test estimate, so it will likely be released in the US, but it remains to be seen at what price.
