The Tesla Model Y Juniper refresh comes with a drain plug at the bottom of the frunk that opens up cooler usage scenarios, and its draining speed has now been put to the test.

When the 2025 Tesla Model Y was still in the release date planning stage, there were rumors that it will feature a powered front trunk gate with touchless opening.

Upon the Model Y Juniper refresh announcement, it became clear that the insiders who heard about a motorized cargo space gate were actually bamboozled into thinking that it will be the frunk.

In reality, the 2025 Model Y only has powered rear trunk gate and mirrors, just as before, and that's that. The trunk gate did indeed gain a new hands-free touchless opening feature for those moments when the owner approaches the cargo space with heavy grocery bags, but the option isn't available for the frunk.

Tesla still provided a cool new feature for the Model Y Juniper frunk, though, by equipping it with a drain plug at the bottom. Thus, the big empty space at the front of the car that is lined with hard plastic can be used in many new and exciting ways.

While the first 2025 Model Y frunk drain plug application that came to mind was to use it as a cooler by filling it with ice instead of shelling out for a third-party Model Y cooler bag, enterprising reviewers have started demonstrating other ways.

Some of these are rather quirky, as the Model Y Juniper facelift review that tests the frunk drain plug action by filling it with water and putting fish there, then showcasing where the draining holes are located below the new Model Y, and how the water comes out.
