Apple's pricey 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 Pro chip is now available with a $650 discount.
B&H is offering a substantial $650 discount on the 16-inch MacBook Pro. This high-end variant comes equipped with the full-fat M5 Pro processor with 18 CPU and 20 GPU cores, 48 GB of RAM, 1 TB SSD, and a 16-inch mini LED display with Apple's anti-reflective nano texture matte coating.

Apple recently increased prices for its MacBook Pro lineup, owing to ongoing DRAM and NAND shortages. The Cupertino giant upped prices for some of its MacBook offerings by as much as 30% in certain markets, which makes Apple's already very expensive premium laptop lineup even more expensive.

Thankfully, it appears that B&H Photo Video now has a high-spec variant of the 16" MacBook Pro currently on sale with a $650 discount, bringing its price down to just under $3,100. The laptop also comes equipped with Apple's nano texture display, which reduces reflections significantly without losing a whole lot of visual fidelity.

Powered by the M5 Pro SoC, paired with 48 GB of shared LPDDR5X RAM, the MacBook Pro promises impressive performance in CPU intensive tasks. Our in-depth review of the laptop reveals that the 18-core CPU is almost 10% faster than the previous M4 Max and is over 11% faster than the 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D CPU.

In fact, the 24-core Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus (currently $255.15 on Amazon) desktop-class CPU is only around 7% ahead in the Cinebench 2026 CPU benchmark.

The M5 Pro SOC is an absolute screamer, trading blows with desktop-class CPUs

The 20-core GPU, however, is a lot less impressive and falls behind a modest 75-watt RTX 5070 Laptop GPU by around 12%. Gaming performance is most likely irrelevant, but those who do care should be aware of the ARM-powered MacBook Pro's limitations in this specific regard. Some games are playable, such as Cyberpunk 2077, but performance is very average and definitely not worth the $3,000 price tag.

For productivity, however, the MacBook Pro shines bright, which is hardly a surprise. The massive 48 GB of shared memory allows the GPU to load up massive datasets, which is especially useful for heavy 3D work and local LLMs.

The MacBook Pro's display continues to be simply outstanding, featuring a 16-inch mini-LED panel with a resolution of 3456 x 2234 and a peak refresh rate of 120 Hz. The display gets impressively bright, reaching almost 1,000 nits of SDR brightness and around a stunning 1,700 nits in smaller areas in HDR mode.

Color performance is also extremely impressive, with the panel covering 99.7% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and almost 100% of the sRGB color gamut. Color accuracy performance is also very impressive, which is to be expected from Apple.

Surface temperatures, even under load, are perfectly tolerable, and the MacBook Pro's battery life is quite outstanding. This 16-inch laptop lasted almost 18.5 hours in our WiFi web browsing test, which is very impressive for a laptop of its calibre.

As always, potential customers are requested to check out our in-depth review of the 16" MacBook Pro with the M5 Pro SoC before making their final purchase decision.

Upgradability is a dead end for the MacBook Pro 16. The CPU, RAM, storage, and Wi-Fi modules are all either impossible to upgrade or at least well beyond the expertise of average consumers
