Keychron launches special edition all-wood K8 HE gaming keyboard

Keychron has launched an All-Wood Special Edition of its K8 HE magnetic-switch keyboard, replacing the standard case with a walnut wood body. The tenkeyless keyboard costs $199.99 on Keychron's website, with orders from its US warehouse shipping from 2 October and global orders from 7 October because of holiday customs closures.

The frame and bottom case are made from walnut, paired with CNC-machined aluminum side panels in brown and an aluminum plate inside. Keychron says the natural grain means no two units look exactly alike. The keyboard ships with deep-brown OSA-profile double-shot PBT keycaps, which are not shine-through, along with extra Mac and Windows keycaps and a system toggle.

Pre-lubed Gateron double-rail magnetic Nebula switches sit underneath and are hot-swappable, though only with the double-rail magnetic switches Keychron sells on its website. Keychron's sensor layout makes the keyboard incompatible with many third-party magnetic switches, including those designed for Wooting keyboards, EnosTech reported.

Users can set the actuation point of each key between 0.2mm and 3.8mm in 0.1mm steps. The keyboard also supports Rapid Trigger, Dynamic Keystrokes with up to four actions per key, Last Key Priority, Snap Click and an analog mode that registers how far a key is pressed, which Keychron pitches for racing and sports games. Last Key Priority and Snap Click are disabled by default.

Connectivity covers 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.2 for up to three devices, and wired USB-C. The polling rate reaches 1,000Hz in wired and 2.4GHz modes and drops to 125Hz over Bluetooth. A 4,000mAh battery lasts up to 110 hours with the north-facing RGB backlight switched off.

The K8 HE runs open-source QMK firmware and is configured through Keychron's Launcher web app, which now includes an AI assistant that turns plain-language requests into settings. Inside, a 3.5mm layer of EVA foam, EPDM foam and a PET film are fitted to dampen typing noise.

The All-Wood edition measures 365.94 by 133.13mm, sits at a fixed 4 degree typing angle and weighs 1,009g. The standard K8 HE weighs about 1,185g.

Keychron launched the original K8 HE in May 2025 at $129.99 for the Standard Edition and $139.99 for a Special Edition with wood trim on each end. The company also sells All-Wood versions of the K2 HE and K3 Max. Keychron says its wooden keyboards carry a coating that resists sweat and moisture and that the wood develops a patina over time.
