Awkward Valley is inspired by the hit webcomic series The Awkward Yeti by Nick Seluk, which follows the clumsy blue yeti Lars and his chatty internal organs – like his heart, brain and gallbladder. The comics are loved for their blend of everyday chaos, absurd humor and self-aware charm – and that’s exactly what Awkward Valley brings to the table.
The new game based on the comic is a quirky daily planning simulator that puts players in the shoes of Lars as he battles his greatest foe: the calendar. Using a micro-deck-building mechanic, you piece together each day with a notebook full of oddball activities, from questionable workout routines and surprise therapy sessions to snack machine choices that test your moral compass.
Once you've picked your activities from the notebook, they're added to the diary – and then you watch how the day plays out. Awkward Valley doesn’t follow a fixed goal. At its core, it’s about seeing the consequences of your choices and how different routines can lead to different outcomes. By trying out new combinations of tasks and schedules, you’ll uncover fresh events and surprising reactions along the way.
Consistently positive reviews on Steam
Awkward Valley was developed by Gallbladder and released on April 1 by the Rue Valley Time Management Department. Since launch, it’s racked up 59 reviews on Steam – all of them positive so far. Players highlight the game’s unique mechanics and how it captures everyday struggles in a relatable way. The art style has also struck a chord with the community. With each in-game day lasting just a few minutes, many see it as the perfect pick-up-and-play title for short breaks.
There’s little to criticize. Some players mention that Awkward Valley doesn’t fully explain its mechanics, so it might take a second run to truly grasp how everything works. Others jokingly admit the game hits a little too close to real life. If you want to try it for yourself, you won’t have to spend a dime. Awkward Valley is completely free to play on Steam.
