iPhone 16 might feature exclusive AI capabilities, according to rumor
It is no secret that Apple is gearing up for a giant leap in AI capabilities, as previously reported by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, with a major overhaul of Siri and the integration of advanced generative AI features into Apple's ecosystem.
Gurman states that under the leadership of John Giannandrea, Apple's AI boss, a smarter version of Siri is in development, potentially arriving next year. Software boss Craig Federighi's team is embedding AI into the upcoming iOS, enhancing Siri and the Messages app with features powered by Apple's Large Language Model (LLM). Eddy Cue's team aims to proliferate AI across various apps, exploring additions like auto-generated playlists in Apple Music and AI-facilitated writing in productivity apps.
In a recent rumor shared independently by leaker @Tech_Reve which was spotted by MacRumors, the leaker claimed that iOS 18 is set to bring new LLM features to existing devices through cloud-based AI. However, on-device AI features will remain exclusive to the future iPhone 16 lineup and beyond.
Gurman, in his newsletter, had also mentioned ongoing debates within Apple regarding the deployment of generative AI—whether as an entirely on-device experience, a cloud-based setup, or a hybrid solution. The on-device approach promises faster processing and significantly enhanced privacy protection, while cloud-based deployment would enable more advanced and sophisticated operations. He also stated that Apple may opt for a combined approach, leveraging on-device processing for certain features and the cloud for more sophisticated tasks, balancing speed and privacy.
