Xperia 1 IV rumor tips a Pixel 6-like 50 MP main camera for the future Sony flagship along with a misleading release date

An intriguing but definitely salt-pinching claim has been made by a tipster known as Nodar Sikharulidze about “Sony’s new flagship”. The commenter has focused on the Xperia line in the past, stating that a mystery dummy smartphone shown in adverts for the Sony WF-1000XM4 headphones revealed the actual design for the Xperia 1 IV. While it was more likely simply a random prop or computer-edited Xperia 1 III, it may have also been a hint at what Sony has got lined up for its next top-of-the-range Xperia.

With that in mind, the tipster has apparently revealed two new tidbits about a Sony flagship, which can be reasoned to be the Xperia 1 IV. First off, it will supposedly come with the “same 50 MP camera” as the upcoming Google Pixel 6 has. This is quite believable, as for a start the 50 MP sensor is from Sony’s own stores, and it has been previously reported that the Japanese company wants to make sure the next Xperia 1 flagship features nothing but Sony lenses. Also, at some point, Sony will have to go beyond the 12 MP sensors it has relied upon so far for the Xperia 1 series. Quality might not be about the MP numbers, but a 50 MP sensor in an Xperia 1 IV would certainly drum up a lot of interest in fans of the brand.

On top of this, the same source has offered the most ambiguous of release dates for this potential Sony Xperia 1 IV: “coming soon”. This initially seems incredibly unlikely, as many users are still waiting for their Xperia 1 III pre-order to be fulfilled. However, it appears the original poster’s definition of “coming soon” is somewhat unique, as when questioned by someone “soon = 2022?” the answer given was “yes”. It’s not much of a tip, as Sony announcing an Xperia 1 IV smartphone in 2022 wouldn’t be much of a surprise considering there has been a new Xperia 1 device released each year since 2019. But at least the idea of a future Sony flagship coming with a Pixel 6-like 50 MP sensor is something for fans to look forward to.
