The Xiaomi SU7 Max EV appears to not only be faster than the similarly priced Tesla Model 3 Highland but also has a noticeably better range according to real-world tests conducted by a Chinese media outlet. The results are a good sign for Xiaomi’s EV since the company envisions it as a competitor to the likes of Porsche Tycan and Audi e-Tron GT.

After just three years of announcing that it is stepping into the electric car market, Xiaomi revealed its first EV, the SU7, in December 2023. The EV comes in two variants, the regular SU7 and the SU7 Max, and features impressive specs. Among the most notable details, Xiaomi claims that the SU7 and the SU7 Max are good for 800 KM and 660 KM on a single charge. These ranges are measured according to the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).

To test Xiaomi’s claims, a Chinese publication named Dongchendi has now put the Xiaomi SU7 Max through its paces and compared the results to other EVs like the Tesla Model 3 Highland AWD Long Range, the Nio ET5, etc (via CarNewsChina).

In real-world testing, Dongchendi found the Xiaomi SU7 Max range to be 643 KM instead of the official figure of 800 KM (CLTC). The Tesla Model 3 Highland range came in at 568 KM while the Nio ET5 showed 455 KM of endurance. Other EVs that were tested included the BYD Han EV (405 KM), Zeeker 001 (407 KM), and the Xpeng P7 (489 KM).

In other words, the Xiaomi SU7 Max beat the Tesla Model 3 Highland by a sizable 75 KM.

In addition to range, the Xiaomi SU7 Max was also pitted against the Tesla Model 3 and the Nio ET5 in terms of performance. The Xiaomi SU7 Max proved to be the fastest of the bunch with a 0-100 KM/h time of only 3.24 s followed by the 3.83 s of the Nio ET5, and 4.62 s of the Tesla Model 3.

The Xiaomi SU7 Max also led the pack in a quarter-mile drag race covering the distance in only 11.17 s. The Nio ET5 came in second with a time of 12.37 s while the Model 3, once again, occupied the last place with a figure of 12.77 s.

All in all, this is quite a strong showing for the Xiaomi SU7 Max as the EV is not only faster than the Tesla Model 3 but can also go a lot farther.
