Along with what is expected to be bad Q1 numbers and the first sales decline for Tesla in years, the automaker is preparing to soften the blow with the unveiling of the brand-new Model 3 Performance version, dubbed Ludicrous.
Spy shots and driving videos of the car are pouring from everywhere, including an event in Malibu where who is who of car bloggers have gathered for a Model 3 Ludicrous hands-on preview before the official release.
All the visuals in the leaked Model 3 Ludicrous footage check out. Painted in Ultra Red, it has a Ludicrous vortex badge at the rear, lowered suspension, and red brakes to go with the more aggressive front lip and spoiler styling.
The Model 3 Ludicrous is expected to net dual-motor power with a combined output of more than 600HP, and have active suspension but no air tank. Inside, bucket seats and carbon dash round up the performance car offering.
Tesla's Q1 results presser will be held today and Tesla might notch its first delivery downtrend since the pandemic, so a little publicity boost by the unveiling could go a long way.
The only mystery left now is if the Model 3 Ludicrous pricing will be below the $55,000 tax credit cutoff, or whether the rumored 2.9 seconds acceleration will pan out.
