Xiaomi Civi 2 Hello Kitty Limited Edition unveiled in time for Valentine's Day 2023

Xiaomi has almost inevitably teamed up with Hello Kitty for a version of the Civi 2 Android smartphone fashioned after the famous cat-person character. It is the same price as a standard SKU of the same device, albeit with reduced availability and a new release date. Then again, it is also now the only Civi 2 with a photochromic rear panel.

Given its mid-range Android smartphone specs and distinctly camera-focused specs, the Xiaomi Civi 2 is ostensibly pitched at a certain demographic in China. Now, the OEM has gone and underpinned this impression by creating a Hello Kitty "Fashion" Limited Edition of the device.

The new co-branded variant has the same specs as a normal, Snapdragon 7 Gen 1-powered unit, although Xiaomi has gone so far in applying new carmine-red accents to unevenly-sized camera rings on a background turned white for the first time that it never stopped to question that it should have.

Then again, the rest of the Civi 2's supposedly romantic re-vamp detracts from all that with a unique effect that brings a cluster of Hello Kitty heads up in pink when the rear panel is exposed to the sun. Xiaomi jokes that it evinces the smartphone's "heart beating when it meets you", although it can also be described more accurately as the mobile device world's latest application of photochromic tech.

The Civi 2 Hello Kitty Limited Edition will be formally released on February 9, 2023, although it has reportedly been put up for pre-order for 2,799 yuan (~US$412): the same starting price as its normal 12GB RAM/256GB internal storage counterpart.
