Purchasing a reasonably priced 85 inch TV used to force compromises in picture quality. However, the Samsung QN90C generates a crisp image even in bright living rooms. Its combination of QLED technology and a Mini LED backlight results in vivid HDR10+ images and impressive black levels. Following a previous low Amazon sale price of $1,697, the QN90C has dropped to $1,399.99 at Best Buy.
How the Samsung QN90C adapts to any environment
This 85 inch TV will occupy a large amount of wall space, but looks as thin as much smaller alternatives. An advantage of the IPS panel is that it grants a consistent viewing experience to all seating positions. That's not the case with some competitors that lack the wide viewing angles of the Samsung QLED TV. The display also ships with one of the more effective anti-glare coatings in its class.
A Mini LED backlight can't replicate the high contrast ratios of the best OLED TV models. On the other hand, those differences are most noticeable in settings without ambient light. The Samsung QLED can handle sunlight and reflections, and reviews have lauded the set's high brightness. Unfortunately, tests also revealed blooming, where brightly colored objects on dark backgrounds cast halos.
With four HDMI 2.1 ports, the Samsung QN90C becomes an enticing option for big-screen gaming. The PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X will take advantage of the display's maximum 120Hz refresh rate. VRR and FreeSync Premium also keep screen tearing from slowing down furious gameplay. While other brands have tried to emulate it, the Samsung Gaming Hub remains a more convenient way to access Game Pass and cloud gaming services.
Buyers may have concerns about the age of Samsung QN90C, as it's a 2023 model. Even so, the 2024 QN90D only produces marginally deeper blacks and superior brightness. Meanwhile, the 2025 Neo QLED QN90F doesn't improve in either area enough to warrant a much steeper sale price.
