Asus has modified its high-end ROG Strix G17 gaming laptop with an AMD graphics card. The Asus ROG Strix G17 Advantage Edition features a Ryzen 9 5900HX processor, a Radeon RX 6800M GPU, 32GB of DDR4-3,200 RAM and a high-refresh-rate screen.

After what seemed like an eternity, AMD's Radeon mobile graphics cards are finally here. As we noted earlier, Asus is one of the few OEMs keen on embracing AMD hardware. Therefore, it isn't surprising that Asus is one of the first OEMs to launch a gaming notebook powered by AMD's newest Radeon RX 6800M graphics card called the Asus ROG Strix G17 Advantage Edition.

The Asus ROG Strix G17 Advantage Edition comes with some pretty high-end specifications, such as an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX processor. One can pair it with up to 32GB of DDR4-3,200 RAM and a 1TB NVMe SSD. AMD chips are known to run hot, and Asus has figured out the perfect solution for it. Both the CPU and GPU dissipate are coated with a layer of liquid metal, which Asus says reduces temperatures by as much as 14 degrees celsius. The laptop's vapour chamber cooling mechanism allows for an additional 25W of thermal headroom than regular Strix laptops.

A high-end graphics card is of little use without a display to match. The Asus ROG Strix G17 Advantage Edition ships with a colossal 17.3-inch QHD (2,560 x 1,440) IPS panel clocked at 165Hz (3ms response time). It covers 100% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. The panel is also available in an FHD (1,920 x 1,080) configuration. Its refreshes at 300Hz (3ms response time) and covers 100% of the sRGB spectrum. Both models are compatible with AMD FreeSync Premium.

Wireless connectivity options on the Asus ROG Strix G17 Advantage Edition include Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0. The gaming laptop has plenty of input options, including three USB Gen 3.2 Type-A ports, One USB Gen3.2 Type-C port that can also output video and charge the notebook at up to 100W, one HDMI 2.0b port, an RJ-45 Ethernet jack and one 3.5mm combo audio jack. A 90Wh battery powers the Asus ROG Strix G17 Advantage Edition.

No gaming laptop is complete without gamer-y features. Thankfully, the Asus ROG Strix G17 Advantage Edition ships with RGB accents that run along its chassis. One can also customize (a part of) the chassis with Asus' Armour Caps, two of which are included in the box. The W, A, S and D keys are highlighted, too. Asus will reveal the Asus ROG Strix G17 Advantage Edition's price and availability details later.
