Stellantis takes on Tesla, Kia and Ford with new STLA Large EV platform
Stellantis has unveiled the STLA Large platform for BEVs. The flexible chassis has been designed for various cars, crossovers and SUVs in segments D and E. The STLA Large is one of four electric vehicle platforms from the company, with the STLA Medium launching last July.
With 400V and 800V versions, the STLA Large will initially have a built-in battery with up to 118 kWh capacity, which should provide a range of up to 800 km (~500 miles). For context, the Kia EV9 has a 99.8 kWh power pack, the Tesla Model S P100D has a 100 kWh battery, and the Ford F-150 Lightning Extended Range model has a 131 kWh solution. The expected fast charging efficiency is 4.5 kWh per minute. There are options for front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models. Plus, EVs using the platform could have a 0 to 100 kph (~62 mph) acceleration time in the two-second range.
Other features include Trail Rated ground clearance for off-roading and cabin heating/cooling optimized for lower energy consumption. The possible measurements of the STLA Large can be found below. Stellantis plans to launch eight BEVs across Dodge, Jeep, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler and Maserati by the end of 2026. The upcoming 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S will be one of the first vehicles to use the STLA Large, due to go on sale in the US this fall.
