Sony Xperia XZ Review: The X Series Flagship
Source: Unbox English
We’ve been taking the Sony Xperia XZ as our daily driver for two weeks now and though we generally enjoyed our time with the device, it’s pretty hard to ignore its shortcomings. The fact that it only has 3GB of RAM makes all the difference in terms of performance for those seeking a powerhouse of a smartphone, which a flagship should be. On the other hand, one thing a lot of us look for these days is camera performance and the XZ definitely delivers in that regard. Sony charges a premium for their devices and at Php 37,990, the Japanese brand is definitely asking us to make a considerable dent in our bank accounts. This really puts the Sony Xperia XZ in a tough spot given all the competition it has nowadays from well-known brands and other brands that are slowly upping the ante. If your purse strings are loose and are looking for a phone with a great camera, we would still recommend that you give the Sony Xperia XZ a look despite its shortcomings.

80% Sony Xperia XZ review: Sony fans finally get their flagship phone
Source: Hardware Zone English
The Sony Xperia XZ is indeed a flagship product that can compete with other flagship rival phones out there. The S$998 price tag seems pretty much par for the course within its tier. While many factors boil down to personal preferences, we can’t deny that the Xperia XZ could strive for an even better battery life. Camera performance on the XZ is one of the better ones we have experienced so far, which is a great plus point for people who want a good Android cameraphone that isn’t from Samsung. All in all, it’s a good smartphone, and even more so for Sony fans who are looking for an upgrade. However, it faces worthy challengers who charge fewer dollars for their flagship phones (like the incoming Moto Z and the OnePlus 3).

While there are some software bugs peppered through the Xperia XZ, at its heart it is still a great phone with a superior camera that is worth boasting about. I’m hoping that Android 7.0 comes to it soon enough to address some of the bugs, but until then you can still confidently use the Xperia XZ as a very competent phone.

Sony Xperia XZ Review – welcome back to the flagship game Sony
Source: Tech Nave English
There are many smartphones out there in the market at this level – the Samsung Galaxy S7, Apple iPhone 7 and even some from the lower price points like the ZTE Axon 7 and Honor 8. However the design and features of the Sony Xperia XZ can surely make Sony fans (and even others) to take a second look at this flagship device from the land of the rising sun. It is a tough market out there now, but this Sony may just be the ticket for the company to succeed in the sub-RM3000 flagship market.

The Sony Xperia XZ is a handsome choice that's comfortable to hold, and we like the vibrant screen and impressive 10-plus hour battery life. Given the phone’s $699 price tag, though, it’s hard to recommend the XZ over either Samsung’s Galaxy S7 ($669) or the more expensive S7 Edge ($769). Both S7 models sport the same camera that outperformed the XZ in our testing, so we think you’ll get better photos with either Samsung phone.

So, in summary, if you go ahead and buy the Xperia XZ, you will have few regrets, unless you shoot lots of videos. However, the vast majority of people would be better off looking at the latest flagships from OnePlus and Xiaomi, which aren't perfect, but show a degree of refinement that was missing from their predecessors. Or if you are shopping around the Rs. 50,000 mark, you could pick up the Samsung Galaxy S7 or the Galaxy S7 Edge and still be left with some cash to spare.

With a fresh new design language and a bold new name (which includes the new ‘X’ and the previous ‘Z’), I expected the innards on the new flagship to showcase at least a bit of change (if not too much). Sadly, this was not the case and while the 23MP sensor does not stand up to the imaging quality delivered by the competition (even below its price bracket), the smartphone as a whole is an indicator that Sony should just shut shop and let go of the smartphone business if it plans to deliver something similar in its next flagship.

The Xperia XZ isn’t a bad phone by any means. A solid attempt from Sony, it brings top of the line hardware and a very pleasing software build. The Xperia XZ has a nice, sexy form factor with its premium metal body and 2.5D glass implementation. Its 5.2-inch Full HD display is appreciated and makes operating with one hand fairly easy. One of my personal favorites is its dust- and water-resistant body that I could take with me on beach trips and the like. Performance-wise, we don’t have much complaints on the XZ as it was able to keep up with us during the entire week of using it as our primary phone. The implementation of USB-Type C is also well-appreciated as a sense of future-proofing the device.

This is undoubtedly the phone that should have kicked off the X-rated rebrand of Sony's dwindling smartphone family. The Sony Xperia XZ improves on previous generation handsets in terms of design but lets itself with a lackluster camera. Sony is definitely moving in the right direction but things are still far from perfect, which is why we can’t really recommend this against other flagships. The pricing is still far too expensive and had Sony knocked it down by £50 or so, we’d be inclined to reconsider. At $700, the Sony Xperia XZ is priced like a flagship phone, but it can't match the premium experience of devices like the Samsung Galaxy S7. It lacks a fingerprint sensor, has a lower-resolution display, and mediocre battery life. The unlocked Galaxy S7 is a better pick all around. If you're looking to save some money, the ZTE Axon 7 gets you a sharper display than the Xperia XZ and otherwise similar hardware for $300 less. Most importantly, neither of these phones overheat when shooting video.

Review: Sony Xperia XZ
Source: Android Headlines English
As I mentioned, the Xperia XZ is a bit of a tough sell at $699. Sure it is flagship material, but it is also missing a great number of things that make other $699 smartphones worth the price. One is the display. A 1080p display is great for 5.2-inches, but not great for a price tag of $699. The other is the deactivated fingerprint scanner. With most smartphones, even budget ones that are under $200, coming out with fingerprint scanners, it’s tough to see why Sony opted to leave it out, at least not turn it on, with the Xperia XZ. Especially where it probably cost them more to leave the fingerprint scanner dormant on the US models, only.

5 Reasons To Buy The Sony Xperia XZ
Source: Forbes English
Primary amongst my initial concerns is battery life. Sony has, since the inception of the Xperia range, boasted about “two day battery life” for practically every mobile device the Japanese company has launched. During the press briefing for the XZ, this was nowhere to be seen in the marketing material. In response to a question from a colleague, a Sony executive gave a slightly fluffy answer about the marketing material taking a “different direction”. In the few days I’ve spent with the XZ, battery life doesn’t look like it’s up to par with previous flagship Sony’s. I’ll know more once I’ve put it through The Review Machine.

The Xperia XZ has some things going for it: it has stylish looks and a clean design, it’s conveniently water-proof and features properly positioned dual front-firing speakers. However, there are just so many places where it falls short, especially compared to the strong competition: its display features bluish and not properly balanced colors, it sometimes stutters, it has a fairly scarce 20GB of user-available storage space, its camera is slow and often counter-intuitive, with images and videos that are not on the same level as the ones from iPhones and Galaxies, it lacks quick charging and in the United States it even ships without a fingerprint scanner.

When the Xperia X Performance came out earlier this year, it looked sort of like the flagship but not quite there. No one said anything about an XZ at that time, and the X Performance was judged as a top-shelf model, which it certainly is, but in price alone. The Sony Xperia XZ seems to marry the Z series and the X series together, which is what its name suggests, even if that wasn't the reasoning behind it. There are a few changes here and there like the Loop feature which is lovely and the inclusion of USB Type-C but overall, the XZ's design is familiar, as are many of the hardware specs. It's pretty much the X Performance with a few tweaks in design and some camera and battery enhancements.

Sony Xperia XZ and X Compact: Hands-on first impressions
Source: International Business Times English
Unlike the metal-backed XZ, the Compact has a glass back which is the same colour as its glass front and metal sides. Despite its smaller size and expected lower cost, the X Compact is still clearly a flagship phone with the looks, performance and camera to match. It has the same 23-megapixel rear camera and the same smart charging technology as the XZ. The processor if the X Compact is the Snapdragon 650, whereas the XZ uses the higher-spec 820.

Sony Xperia XZ review: Return of the flagship
Source: Android Central English
The Sony Xperia XZ is a return to form for the manufacturer, with a much-improved camera, a more interesting chassis design and solid performance in other areas. But some nagging issues remain, such as the general dullness of Sony's hardware, and the inexplicable lack of fingerprint security in the U.S. models. And although the camera is a lot better than any other Sony phone, it's not as dependable as Samsung's latest.

Sony Xperia XZ Review: Hands-on with yet another Sony flagship shortcoming
Source: Digital Spy English
After years in the smartphone wilderness, it feels like Sony has had the opportunity to reset the balance, only to go straight ahead and make the same old mistakes yet again. Despite only just entering the realms of reality, the Xperia XZ is a phone that already feels out of date. Not just on the core specs front, either, but with its blocky, unforgiving design.

Sony Xperia XZ Review: Solid Smartphone, Frustrating Camera Experience

The Sony Xperia XZ is…perplexing. On one hand, it’s not a bad phone, but on the other hand, it’s not excellent either, which really got me thinking: where does Sony go from here?
Positive: Nice design; fast fingerprint sensor; good display; decent speakers; excellent cameras. Negative: Uncomfortable buttons; short battery life; relatively high price.

Model: If there is one word to describe Sony, it will be ‘premium’ and premium is what consumers are getting with the Sony Xperia XZ. Even at the first glance, it is clear that the Xperia is a device of superior quality. Design-wise, Sony retains its slim, rectangle slab form with chiselled corners compared to the sharp edges common in its predecessors. This flagship phone is built with an industry-first metal material called ALKALEIDO, which makes this phone a solid and firm device. A well-concealed fingerprint sensor is built in at the side of the phone, something unique to most Sony flagship smartphones and tablets. The dimensions of the XZ measure at 146 x 72 x 8.1 mm and it weighs 161 grams. One-handed operation is possible albeit at the strain of its heavier weight. It is equipped with a 5.2-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels at a pixel density of 424 PPI. This Full HD display is arguably secondary to the 4K display on the Z5 Premium. The lack of a 4K display is nonetheless ancillary since it is less energy efficient and really does not serve any purpose for a smartphone. The device runs on Android OS, v6.0.1 (Marshmallow), with a planned upgrade to v7.0 (Nougat) a few months after it is released.

It is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 quad-core chipset paired with 3 GB of RAM. The internal storage of the XZ has the capacity of either 32 or 64 GB and it comes with a MicroSD expansion slot which is expandable up to 256 GB. It has to be noted though that the dual sim version of the Xperia XZ utilizes the second sim slot for this function. Its whopping 23 MP rear facing snapper comes in a f2.0 lense and features phase detection and laser autofocus. It supports recording at up to [email protected] The front camera is a 13 MP, f2.0 camera, which supports Full-HD recording. It is safe to say that this phone is among the top camera phones in the market at the moment. Selfies taken are definitely sharper and more detailed. One key feature of the XZ is the IP68 water and dust proofing, which makes this phone more rugged and perfect for outdoor use. However, this is slowly becoming a normal requirement for the flagship market and is available in its main rivals, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. Connectivity is supported by Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, A-GPS and Bluetooth v4.2. Although it is not built-in with a radio, it is NFC-compliant. The four color variants available for the XZ are mineral black, platinum, forest blue and deep pink. It has a 2900 mAh battery, which is a norm for devices in this size and range. While there is no wireless charging on the XZ, it is fitted with a USB Type C port which allows fast rate charging and data transfer. Users are definitely not short-changed with the XZ. Premium is what they are paying and premium is what they are getting, but it still falls behind the Samsung Galaxy S7 series which offers more RAM and a slightly better camera.

5.2":

This display is quite big for a smartphone but frequently used for smartphones.

Large display-sizes allow higher resolutions. So, details like letters are bigger. On the other hand, the power consumption is lower with small screen diagonals and the devices are smaller, more lightweight and cheaper.

0.161 kg:

Only few smartphones are more lightweight than this.
