Sony has suspended global sales of the Xperia 1 VII after a growing number of users reported random shutdowns or failure to boot. The company now believes that only certain production batches of the flagship phone are affected by the issue.

As previously reported, Sony has halted sales of the Xperia 1 VII worldwide. The company has now shared additional details in an updated support article, noting that the issue appears to only affect specific production batches of the device.

Whilst Sony has yet to pinpoint the exact cause, the statement suggests that the problem could be hardware-related, meaning that affected phones may need to be sent in for repair. According to the company, the issue can manifest as random shutdowns, unexpected restarts, or even complete failure to boot. In such cases, it may sometimes help to force a restart by pressing and holding the power button and volume up bottom simultaneously for 20 seconds. However, this method only serves as a temporary workaround. Users are still advised to back up all the data on their phone as soon as possible.

Sony further recommends updating the Xperia 1 VII’s software to the latest version and regularly checking for new updates under System → Software update. In any case, affected customers are urged to contact Sony’s customer service both to receive immediate support and to help the company determine the extent of the issue. It remains unknown how many Xperia 1 VII units are affected.
