Samsung will launch the Galaxy Z Fold7 and other foldables next month at Unpacked. Renders of the premium foldable device have leaked ahead of that and look to have confirmed a rumor on the grapevine. Ergo, that Samsung will be ditching the under-display selfie camera on the Galaxy Z Fold7.
As first reported by PandaFlash on X, it seems Samsung will be eschewing an under-display selfie camera on the Galaxy Z Fold7 in favor of a traditional setup. This is seemingly confirmed by the recent leaks showcasing the foldable with a hole punch on its inner screen.
This decision isn't particularly surprising, as early leaks on the Galaxy Z Fold7 claimed the foldable would adopt most of the hardware from last year's Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition that was exclusive to the Korean market. That foldable featured a 200 MP main camera and also an inner selfie camera housed within a traditional hole punch. Both of those features look set to carry over to the Galaxy Z Fold7.
It's unknown why Samsung appears to have ditched the under-display camera on the Galaxy Z Fold7. Performance would be the likeliest guess, however, as while the technology has developed, an extra display layer above the camera lens has ensured worse performance than traditional layouts.
