The saga of the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus and its IP rating outside China continues. To recap, Xiaomi sells the device with IP69 certification against dust and water in China. As a result, the device should be able to withstand being subject to hot water and pressurised water jets without incurring damage.
Initially, it seemed that this would not hold true for the device's international release. Instead, Xiaomi appeared to confirm that the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G would only be IP68 certified, just like its predecessor (curr. $377.50 on Amazon). However, it then clarified that the handset would reach India with IP69 certification, which it advertised as being 'designed to handle the extreme'.
Unfortunately, the degree of water resistance that the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus offers still remains unclear. Officially, Xiaomi has now taken the position that IP69 is 'supported', but that terms and conditions apply. Bizarelly, Xiaomi has now clarified what these terms are or where to find them. In fact, its Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus product listing only references IP68 certification. Consequently, there is no guarantee that the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus is as resistant to water as Xiaomi has frequently made it out to be.
