Redmi A1 leaks as Xiaomi's next entry-level smartphone running Android 12 (Go edition)
Yogesh Brar has shared numerous specifications relating to the Redmi A1, a new product category for Xiaomi. Rumoured to be arriving tomorrow alongside the Redmi 11, the Redmi A1 should feature the MediaTek Helio A22, a chipset that we have already reviewed in budget smartphones like the Nokia 2.3 and the Huawei Y5 2019. Predictably, Xiaomi will complement the Redmi A1 with just 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of flash storage, reinforcing that the device is squarely a budget smartphone.
Likewise, Brar claims that the Redmi A1 will run Android 12 (Go edition), not MIUI. Incidentally, the last Xiaomi smartphone that launched without MIUI was the Mi A3, which recently received its final software update. Additionally, the Redmi A1 is alleged to have a 6.5-inch IPS display running at 60 Hz with a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 10 W fast charging. Moreover, Brar expects Xiaomi to include 8 MP primary, 2 MP auxiliary and 5 MP front-facing cameras.
Separately, @Unlockandfree has shared what they claim is a hands-on photo with the Redmi A1, underlining the device's specifications. An apparent marketing image has surfaced too, in which the back of the Redmi A1 is shown in three colours. Presumably a plastic back, it is unusual for an entry-level smartphone to mimic Xiaomi's older flagship camera layout, such as the Mi 11 and Mi 11 Pro. Pricing has not leaked yet, although Brar believes that the Redmi A1 will cost less than INR 10,000 (~US$125).
