Realme announces the sale of its 100 millionth smartphone worldwide
Realme has existed as a smartphone brand for almost exactly 3 years now, having been established in August 2018. Since then, it has managed to sell 100 million devices, and now also holds the world record for time taken to do so, knocking Xiaomi (which accrued the same amount of shipments in about 40 months) off this throne as of the end of the second quarter of 2021 (3Q2021).
Realme, found to have broken the world record for the time needed to sell 50 million smartphones back in 3Q2020, has also now broken into the top 10 of brands in this market worldwide, at #7. It is also #5 in Europe and #4 in India as of 2Q2021, and also operates in 59 other regions.
The OEM attributes its success to its appeal among younger and young professional consumers. To this end, it is also quick to adopt trends, such as being the first BBK Electronics subsidiary to unveil its 125W charging technology under its branding; the first company to launch a Snapdragon 888-powered phone in 2021 and the first to unveil a truly affordable 5G phone.
Realme has also posted a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 149% in 2Q2021, and now targets another 100 million units sold by 2022, and the same number in the year after that. It also plans to keep its growth going through the other areas of its business, which include TWS earbuds; smart TVs; smart bands and, most recently, a line of magnetic charging accessories called MagDart.
