The Pokémon Company has officially announced that preorder for Pokémon Legends: Z-A will open on 5 June 2025, ahead of the game's launch on 16 October for both the first-gen Nintendo Switch (approx. $299 on Amazon) and the Switch 2. Players on the Switch 2 can expect enhanced resolution and frame rates, as confirmed by the Nintendo eShop.
An early comparison screenshot suggests that the game leverages the Switch 2’s superior performance for improved lighting. Nintendo likely released different screenshots for each version of the game to hinder direct side-by-side comparison. One thing for certain is that the Switch 2 version is going to cost more. Nintendo has already stated that the upgrade pack will be priced at ¥1,000 – presumably around $10.
Further details on Pokémon Legends: Z-A are expected to be unveiled during a “Pokémon Presents” livestream on 22 July at 2 PM GMT. The title shares a similar gameplay style with Pokémon Legends: Arceus, featuring an open world where Pokémon roam freely as well as a revised real-time battle system.
Interestingly, Z-A is set primarily in Lumiose City, the largest urban hub in the Kalos region – which players may be familiar from Pokémon X and Y. The game will also feature a day-night cycle that impacts gameplay. The trailer below offers a glimpse at the game, though the footage was taken from the first-gen Nintendo Switch.
