Oura Ring fitness tracker hits one million user milestone and announces upcoming features

Oura has announced that it has sold one million Oura Ring fitness trackers. The third generation of the Oura Ring was released last October as an alternative to a smartwatch or bracelet style device.

The ring has many health functions, including heart rate monitoring, temperature measurement and menstrual cycle tracking. Several sports stars are reportedly among the one million users, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Joshua.

A core feature of the Oura Ring is its sleep tracking feature, which the company says has been its primary focus for the gadget. Oura claims that the ring is the most accurate sleep tracking wearable. So far, the rings have tracked over 2.5 billion hours of sleep.

The Finnish company’s path to the one million customer milestone has not been smooth. After the launch of the Oura Ring Generation 3, many customers complained about the Oura Membership costing US$5.99 (or €5.99) per month. While the subscription was not strictly necessary to use the device, many features can only be unlocked by paying members.

In the blog post, Oura stated that it would be releasing more features for the device soon, alongside research studies and other content. The company named Workout Heart Rate and an updated Sleep Staging algorithm as the tools it was working to deliver to customers this year. Oura has not yet committed to an exact release date for these features.
