Oppo F7 officially announced
All the previous leaks were presenting the F7 as Oppo’s mid-range model for this year’s lineup, however, a few specs were missing. Today’s official announcement confirms most of the leaked specs while still revealing some interesting unknown ones. Yes, this is yet another model with the infamous iPhone X notch, but it has quite a bit to offer for a mid-range device.
Apparently the 2:1 aspect ratio trend is quickly losing ground, as Oppo decided to implement a non-standard 19:9 6.23-inch LCD display with 2280x1080 resolution in the F7. The notch integrates all the sensors, the audio jack and the impressive f/2.0 25 MP selfie camera, which is this model’s selling point. The list of special options that come with the selfie cam includes HDR imaging and the AI-powered gender identification system with feature enhancing. Of course, the AR stickers could not be missing, plus the cam is also used in conjunction with the Face Unlock security system that can process 128 recognition points to identify faces. The rear camera gets only a 16 MP sensor and f/1.8 aperture, but also comes with a LED flash and phase detection autofocus.
Powering the F7 is the MediaTek Helio P60 octa-core SoC clocked at 2.0 GHz that integrates a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. These are coupled with 4 or 6 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of internal storage (expandable up to 256 GB via microSD card + dual SIM). There is a 3,400 mAh battery, but it apparently does not come with the quick charge option. OS-wise, the F7 will be running Android 8.1 with a customized ColorOS 5.0 launcher out of the box.
The Oppo F7 will go on sale on April 9 in India and will also be available online from Flipkart. The 4 GB + 64 GB version will be available in Solar Red, Moonlight Silver and Diamond Black for ~US$338, while the 6 GB + 128 GB version will only come in Solar Red and Diamond Black color options, with an MSRP of ~US$416.
