Although a few billions have no issues — or at least "not yet" — with Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, Telegram continues to grow and recently managed to hit a new milestone. According to a post published on the official Telegram Blog at the end of last week, this secure instant messaging app had been used by no less than 200 million people within the last 30 days.
The most interesting part about the popularity of this platform is that Telegram was never promoted using ads, so all the current users have been invited by others to join. The blog post mentioned above also makes it clear that Telegram is about "the idea that everyone on this planet has a right to be free." Sadly, this approach also pushed Telegram straight into a direct battle with the Russian government.
To celebrate this milestone, Telegram got a new update for iOS (version 4.8) and Android (version 4.8.5) that brings sticker sets search and the ability to take and send multiple media. The auto-night mode settings that have been available since the previous release for Android users are also available for iOS users now. In addition to Android and iOS, Telegram also supports Windows Phone and Firefox OS, but these two mobile operating systems are virtually extinct right now, so they did not get any update.
If you never heard of Telegram or you simply see no point in giving it a chance, maybe the movie below could help you change your mind.
