Diggles: The Myth of Fenris is a real-time strategy game that earned its place as a retro classic upon its release in 2001. Players take control of a clan of dwarves and build an underground colony. Production facilities have to be built, resources collected and various missions completed.
The central plot revolves around the search for Fenris - the escaped hellhound of the Norse god Odin. Players dig their way through various levels with their clan of dwarves, exploring unknown areas and solving puzzles to find Odin's lapdog.
Over the course of the game, individual dwarves can be trained and specialized - either as blacksmiths, cooks or warriors. There is also an extensive technology tree that allows you to develop new buildings, tools and weapons. Diggels is certainly not a feast for the eyes by today's standards, but is at least popular among players for its lively game world.
On Steam, Diggels costs around $8 and is well received. The game has 88 percent positive ratings from over 500 reviews. Gamers can get the retro strategy game for free on GOG until November 18 at 3 pm (CET).
