Nokia has announced the recently-launched X20 smartphone can now upgrade to Android 12. This Beta 1 build is available as an OTA to members of the brand's developer preview program. Therefore, interested parties may now have a way of getting a sneak peek at what the HMD Global company has planned for the OS' next major upgrade.

Nokia has announced the release of Android 12 Beta 1, albeit for one phone only: The X20 launched in April 2021 with the Snapdragon 480 SoC and a 6.67-inch FHD+ display. Its new choice of software update may thus offer enthusiasts an insight into how the upcoming major OS upgrade will act on more or less new, albeit mid-range-ish, hardware.

The X20 was included in a long-ish list of devices eligible for Android 12's first beta months ago; however, Nokia had taken until August 31, 2021 to announce this initial beta. However, the OEM bills it as more suitable for those who need to optimize their apps for the latest system update rather than the average user.

On the other hand, this may not stop any X20 owner signing up to Nokia's developer preview program via the Support banner in the device's My Phone app. However, as the installation comes with the risk of wiping all settings and data from Android 11, it may warrant serious consideration before committing a daily driver to the update.
