Nintendo Switch Pro referenced in OLED manufacturer earnings call; OLED display chosen for its higher contrast ratio and faster response times
Last month, Nintendo included a few changes in firmware v12.0.0 to accommodate 'Aula', believed to be an upcoming Switch console. As we discussed in early April, it appears that Nintendo intends to release 'Aula' with a dock that supports firmware updates and 4K over DisplayPort.
Now, new details on a revised Switch model have emerged. According to Universal Display Corporation (UDI), brought to our attention by Spawn Wave, Nintendo has chosen 'an OLED screen for the new Switch Pro', the long-rumoured name for the next Switch.
UDI cites 'our reports' when mentioning this, so this may be insider information than something that Nintendo has confirmed internally. Nonetheless, such a report from UDI and its CEO is more reliable than previous rumours. Unfortunately, UDI did not mention the Switch Pro again during its Q1 2021 earnings call, nor Nintendo.
