Xiaomi is gearing up to launch its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 flagship phones, which will be part of the Xiaomi 17 series. The company has recently shared the redesigned back of the Pro models, which come with a secondary screen that the company calls the Magic Back Screen.
This rear display implementation is more like a follow-up to what Xiaomi has tried with the Mi 11 Ultra, but the back screen of the 17 Pro phones appears to be more functional. Similar to the recently launched vertical foldable smartphones (Motorola Razr 2025 curr. $599.99 on Amazon), this Magic Back Screen covers a decent chunk of the phone's rear, covering the areas around the two back cameras.
While Xiaomi hasn't specified the screen size yet, it has now showcased the customization options that the Magic Back Screen will offer. As the new video shows, users will have the option to enable the always-on display feature with user-modified content displayed.
Although the video doesn't show any other features that the secondary display of the Xiaomi 17 Pro series is capable of offering, it should allow users to take selfies via the rear cameras, just like the Mi 11 Ultra. The screen size also appears to be large enough to run widgets and apps, but the company hasn't showcased this ability yet.
Speaking of the rear cameras, a recent leak suggests that the Xiaomi 17 Pro may not offer a meaningful upgrade over its predecessor. Instead, it's the Pro Max that will sport a better Leica-enhanced setup. Xiaomi is expected to share more details about its new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 phones through future teasers.
