Google has now started selling a new Nest Doorbell, almost a month after photos of the same device emerged on Reddit. As expected, the Nest Doorbell 3rd Gen Wired contains upgrades like Gemini Live support and a new camera sensor that outputs at 2,048 x 2,048 pixels with a 1:1 aspect ratio. Also, this sensor is joined by a 166° field of view (FoV) lens.
Now, Google has clarified that this sensor offers up to 6x digital zoom with a dedicated 'Night Vision with HDR' mode. Unfortunately, the Nest Doorbell 3rd Gen Wired peaks at at 30 FPS regardless of zoom levels and resolution. Moreover, the doorbell can only store activity for the last three hours unless one purchases one of Google's Home Premium subscriptions.
Also, the Nest Doorbell 3rd Gen Wired supports up to WiFi 5 connectivity with WEP, WPA, WPA2 and WPA3 encryption, as well as 128-bit AES encryption using TLS/SSL. Google's latest Nest Doorbell jumps to IP65 water and dust resistance, compared with the IP54 levels offered by its battery-based predecessor (curr. $154 on Amazon).
The Nest Doorbell 3rd Gen Wired is available for $179.99 in Hazel, Linen and Snow colour options. Alternatively, Google's latest doorbell can be picked up in Canada for CA$239.99. For some reason, Google has decided against offering the Nest Doorbell 3rd Gen Wired in other markets yet despite mentioning the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia in its press release.
