NVIDIA has committed to releasing 'Lite Hash Rate' versions of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3070 and RTX 3080. The RTX 3090 remains unaffected, but all other desktop RTX 30 series cards shipping from this month onwards will be capped at half their theoretical ETH hash rates.

NVIDIA has announced in a press release that it plans to re-release the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 with a halved hash rate. GALAX confirmed as much last week, as we reported. Incidentally, NVIDIA's announcement confirms claims made by @kopite7kimi in February.

There is no word on if NVIDIA will re-release the RTX 3090, but all RTX 3060 TiRTX 3070 and RTX 3080 that ship in May should have a halved Ethereum hash rate. NVIDIA explains that:

our GeForce partners are labelling the GeForce RTX 3080, RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 Ti cards with a 'Lite Hash Rate', or 'LHR', identifier. The identifier will be in retail product listings and on the box.

We should stress that these restrictions will not apply to RTX 3060 TiRTX 3070 and RTX 3080 cards that have already been sold. Hence, NVIDIA does not plan to roll out any firmware updates to halve the ETH hash rate on these cards. NVIDIA has not acknowledged this yet, but GALAX lists these LHR cards as having new GPUs with '2' suffixes. The new GPU model numbers are as follows:

  • GeForce RTX 3060 - GA106-302
  • GeForce RTX 3060 Ti - GA104-202
  • GeForce RTX 3070 - GA104-302
  • GeForce RTX 3080 - GA102-202
