Clear statement. In line with the notebook launch of Nvidia's Pascal architecture, MSI announces a new high-end system based on the GeForce GTX 1070. The performance of the GT62VR is not only supposed to beat devices with the GTX 970M, but also notebooks equipped with the GTX 980M by quite a margin. Our review will find out if that is the case.

Thanks to new graphics technology, the MSI GT62VR Dominator Pro-005 is the top performer in the category, beating even high-end machines on 3D testing, and at a lower price. The physical design isn't particularly elegant, but that's not the primary concern for a stay-at-home system, and it's still less bulky and heavy than many gaming systems. There's more storage and memory than the GT72 Dominator Pro, and though the screen is smaller, it's hard to recommend anything but the newest graphics card, especially at this price.

The GT62VR is standing evidence that MSI knows how to build a gaming notebook. Thanks to Nvidia’s new “Pascal” graphics cards, specifically the GTX 1070, this 15.6-inch powerhouse was able to handily outperform even the fastest previous-gen gaming notebooks, and the GTX 1070 isn’t even the top-end card.

Overall, the MSI GT62VR Dominator Pro is one powerful model, easily outperforming anything before it including the GTX 980 models but offering a cooler and more efficient platform to serve as a gaming and workstation. MSI has clearly stuck with an effective chassis design choosing to maintain the Dominator Pro design but losing the tacky accent lights in the front to conserve power and simplify PCB layout.

The era of Pascal has arrived, and if the MSI GT62 Dominator is any indication, gamers are in for an awesome ride. For $1,999, you get a 15-inch system that can deliver impressive, buttery-smooth frame rates on both traditional and VR titles. As if that weren't enough, you also get face-melting transfer speeds and a workhorse of a processor.

On its own, the GT62VR is a good laptop in my opinion. Compared to others with the same feature level (mostly, an MXM and better thermals), the price is around the same as the competitors. Some laptops like the Clevo pP650RP6 and Asus GL502VM/VS have better performance.price ratio, but not as good cooling solution and also, no MXM GPU. So, there is some features and qualities balancing matter here and as always, one should consider what shes’ really after with a laptop. A small note that is not related to the GT62VR in specific, but it seems that the I7-6700HQ starts to limit the 3D performance of systems with GPUs like the GTX 1060.

Plan on using the Dominator Pro as a desktop if you do buy one. There's no external GPU support for upgrading down the line and what little we could do to save on battery (50% brightness, keyboard lighting off) isn't enough to save the notebook's internal power from caving in on itself a year or two down the road. In spite of all the problems, though, it's admittedly a painless route to VR.

MSI GT62VR 6RE (Dominator Pro 4K) is an impressive laptop that suffers a minor annoyance as the mouse buttons are clicky and sound dreadful. In every other respect it is impressive. The combination of Core i7, GTX 1070, 32GB of DDR4 RAM, a fast 512GB SSD and a lovely IPS panel work together to deliver a superb gaming experience. Clearly the 4K resolution is a headline feature and yet we found it questionable as 4K gaming is rarely a practical option for a laptop.

The MSI GT62VR Dominator Pro is the perfect next step if you are looking to upgrade your PC. Yes, it is a laptop and you can easily take it anywhere, but you wouldn’t want to. It looks much better on my desk at home with my Steelseries mouse pad and Rival fade mouse plugged in anyway. However, you are given that unique privilege of laughing at everyone struggling to carry their desktops when you walk into your next LAN with a simply backpack and a delicious cappuccino in your hand.

Overall and taking everything into consideration from the performance, design and value aspects of the review, I believe the MSI GT62VR 7RE deserves our gold award. Yes, one could say that 60fps wasn’t achieved at the maximum settings in the games we tested, but this notebook is far more than just about gaming, it has the performance that content creators on the go need with the Intel i7-7820HK processor and 4K UHD screen, while maintaining a strong heavy feature set for even the most hardcore of gamers. I believe if you’re budget is strictly limited to £2200 and you want something with a 4K IPS screen as opposed to a 1080p variant, then this is the model to go out and buy. You can purchase the MSI GT62VR Dominator Pro from Amazon UK by clicking here!

While the MSI GT62VR 7RE Dominator Pro is certainly a good gaming laptop, the GTX 1070 GPU did not perform as good as its desktop class counterpart. The Intel i7-7700HQ processor is also just slightly better than a 3rd generation Intel i7-3770K processor. That said, most of the game titles that we tested ran at 55fps or higher. However, for those who would want to opt for a UHD screen with the MSI GT62VR 7RE Dominator Pro, 4K gaming performance isn’t satisfactory unless if you don't mind to tune down the settings of the game to the minimum.

MSI GT62VR Dominator Pro-238
The MSI GT62VR Dominator Pro-238 is a laptop which offer tremendous performance; not only for software but especially for gaming. The GT62VR is just one of MSI's many renamed gaming models in an attempt to take on virtual reality in the notebook space, a move separate from the company's "VR backpack" initiative. The laptop is VR ready for Oculus Rift or HTC Vive headset, while simultaneously beefy enough to deliver 1440p graphics to an external display. The MSI GT62VR Dominator Pro-238 has a 15.6-inch Full HD screen. 1080p is not bad by itself but many competitors offer Quad HD screens. The current display runs at 60 Hz refresh rate and it has G-Sync supported. The matte display on the GT62VR Dominator Pro is hindered by washed out colors and black tones, such as shadows and outlines, inferior to what users might see on a glossier panel. The panel type seems to be IPS-level, meaning viewing angle closer to 180 degrees can be expected. A Full HD webcam lives in the top bezel. The GT62VR is almost exclusively focused on its high-performance specs. For the processor, it has an Intel Core i7-7700HQ with four cores, a base clock of 2.8 GHz and a Turbo clock of 3.8 GHz. Two drives reside inside the MSI GT62VR Dominator Pro-238. The conventional 1 TB hard drive might interest those who want to put heaps of data on their laptop. But, there is also 256 GB SATA3 M.2 SSD, on which the operating system is installed. The laptop comes with two 8 GB RAM modules, which gives a total RAM capacity of 16 GB. That being said, the mainboard hosts four RAM slots all in all. The keyboard on the GT62VR manages to impress with a perfectly-spaced arrangement of character and function keys that are surprisingly quiet. The three-zone keyboard lights are completely customizable using the pre-installed SteelSeries Engine 3 software. Moreover, there's a button dedicated to turning the lights off entirely. The performance of the MSI GT62VR Dominator Pro shines brightest when it's plugged into a weighty power supply. It's not exactly optimized for portability. The usual set of ports can be found on the sides of MSI GT62VR Dominator Pro-238. The three USB ports are welcoming peripherals such as a gaming mouse or an optical drive. Also, the newer often called multifunctional USB 3.1 Type-C port is included. The video outputs are HDMI and mini Displayport so the user can choose between two solid options. The Internet is accessible with two adapters. Either the 1000Mbps RJ-45 port (Killer Gaming Network E2500) or WiFi (Killer N1435 Combo), which is essentially 2×2 ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1 in one package. The MSI GT62VR Dominator Pro-238 is definitely among the best gaming laptops around. However, it does come at quite a steep price. Hands-on article by Jagadisa RajarathnamSpecifications

A gamer who doesn’t want to compromise anything would choose something like MSI GT62VR Dominator Pro-238. A notebook so prestigious doesn’t really have weak spots. Everything is in check, including the high-end GTX 1070 graphics card, a Core i7 processor and solid-state drive. The keyboard backlight color can be freely customized. Perhaps one thing I’d like to criticize is the screen – for some players, a Quad HD resolution would be preferable. On the other hand, it would also take more juice from the graphics card. So all in all, the MSI is a well-balanced yet heavyweight series gaming laptop. If that’s what you want, seek no further!

Unfortunately, this laptop has more than it’s fair share of sacrifices and though the G-Sync panel is a nice perk, it’s an expensive one. For us, it’s not quite enough to justify the you’ll pay for this unit over its P57x V6 competition.

MSI: Micro-Star International (MSI) was founded in 1986 in Taiwan. MSI is especially known as a manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards for PCs, but also offers computer accessories, complete systems, motherboards, graphics cards, laptops, desktop PCs, monitors and other components. However, the Microstar brand name in Germany belongs to the Medion company. MSI is known for its gaming products and has developed a wide range of gaming laptops and desktop PCs. The company is also active in workstations, servers and industrial automation. MSI has offices in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Mobile: Pascal based high-end mobile graphics card based on a cut down GP104 (like the GTX 1080) and GDDR5 graphics memory. Successor to the GTX 980M with a 10 Watts higher TDP. Similar to the desktop GTX 1070 performance wise, but with more shaders and lower clock speeds.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Mobile: The mobile GTX 1060 is based on the GP106 chip and offer 1280 shaders. Compared to the identically named desktop version it features a slightly lower clock rate. Games in Full HD and maximum details should run fluently on the card.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Mobile: Pascal based laptop graphics card using GDDR5 graphics memory. Should offer a similar performance to the deskto GTX 1080. However, there is also a more power efficient "Max-Q" version that performs worse than the normal GTX1080 and is used in thin and light laptops.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
6700HQ: Skylake-based quad-core processor for notebooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 530 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.
6820HK: Skylake-based quad-core processor for notebooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 530 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.
Intel Kaby Lake:
i7-7820HK: Quad-core notebook processor based on the Kaby Lake architecture running at 2.9 - 3.9 GHz. It is the second fastest model of the consumer H-series in the beginning of 2017. The chip also integrates the HD Graphics 630 GPU clocked at 350 - 1100 MHz and is manufactured in a 14 nm process (improved compared to Skylake). Compared to the Core i7-7820HQ, the 7820HK lacks business features like vPro or TXT support.
i7-7700HQ: Quad-core notebook processor based on the Kaby Lake architecture. Besides four CPU cores (including Hyper Threading), the chips also integrates the HD Graphics 630 GPU and is manufactured in an improved 14 nm process.

2.9 kg:
With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
4 kg:
A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.
