Reviews for the MSI GS60 2PE-626UK

70% MSI GS60 2PE Ghost Pro review
Source: Trusted Reviews English
There’s plenty of power inside this machine, and MSI has squeezed top-level components into a chassis that’s slimmer and lighter than any gaming notebook we’ve yet seen. The screen and keyboard also excel, and the speakers are good. It’s a contender if rivals are expensive, but only worth a purchase if you’re going to be using it at a power source and on a desk – as poor battery life and thermal performance are the MSI’s key problems.

90% MSI GS60 2PE Ghost Pro 15.6 inch Laptop Review
Source: Kitguru English
It is true, the machine does run rather warm, and it emits a fair level of noise under heavy, sustained load. There is absolutely nothing MSI can do about this – apart from add in more fans and increase noise levels well past 40dBA. MSI have clearly spent some time in the R&D department, balancing the heat against noise emissions. Even though the machine does get very warm under load it never suffered from throttling during our tests. If you pick one up however, we do advise that you keep the rear vents clear from any obstructions. MSI are selling several versions of the MSI GS60 2PE Ghost Pro 15.6 inch Laptop. This particular model we reviewed today, is available from Overclockers UK for £1,399.99 inc vat, although it has just sold out as we went to press. MSI did tell us that this is one of their more popular models, and it isn’t difficult to see why.

Model:

MSI has added to their already extensive gaming notebook range with the MSI GS60 2PE Ghost Pro again. At first glance, one can see much similarity in all their designs especially with the backlit SteelSeries keyboard. MSI claims to have created the thinnest and lightest 15.6” gaming notebook.

It comes fitted with the latest 4th generation Intel Core i7 Processor clocked at 2.4 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.4 GHz and integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M GDDR5 3GB graphics card and up to 16 GB DDR3L 1600 MHz RAM. The LCD display is a 15.6" Full HD (1920x1080), anti-glare panel that will definitely be easy on the eye.

The MSI GS60 2PE Ghost Pro can be fitted with storage up to 256 GB Super RAID + 1 TB HDD 7200rpm. Other hardware includes Killer E2200 LAN, Sound by Dynaudio, 802.11ac Wifi adapter and 3 USB 3.0 ports.

The notebook is powered with a 6-Cell Li-Polymer (4840mAh 52Wh) but make sure to be plugged in when using the notebook for heavy gaming. The operating system is Windows 8.1 and with dual fan thermal cooling system, any user can rest assured that the MSI GS60 2PE Ghost Pro will perform flawlessly.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M: High-end graphics card from the GeForce GTX 800M series.

These graphics cards are able to play the latest and most demanding games in high resolutions and full detail settings with enabled Anti-Aliasing.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

4700HQ: Haswell-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.4 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.4 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

15.6": 15 inch display-variants are the standard and are used for more than the half of all notebooks. 15.4 inch display with 16:10 are the standard for notebook displays. However nowadays, more and more 16:9 displays with 15.6 inch appear. The reason why so many people like displays with medium size is, that this size is not exhausting for the eyes, does not need too much energy and the laptops can be kept quite compact.» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

2 kg: These sub-notebooks weight less than the average of all notebooks, but represent a heavier class of weight among the sub-notebooks. 12 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.

MSI: Micro-Star International (MSI), is a Taiwan based computer hardware manufacturer since 1986 best known for desktop computer motherboards. MSI also designs and manufactures graphics cards, barebone PCs, notebook computers, networking products, servers, multimedia, consumer electronics, and storage devices. MSI, as most Taiwanese computer manufacturers, sells products on OEM/ODM basis. It also sells products worldwide based on its own brand name "MSI". The market share of laptops with the MSI brand is rather low.
