MSI GS60

MSI is known for producing quality gaming laptops and, the GS60 is no exception. This stunning device does not only look good on the outside, but has over the top hardware specifications under the hood. At its core, the MSI GS60 is equipped with an Intel i7 4700MQ processor which can be clocked to an amazing 3.2 GHz in Turbo mode. This allows this dual core processor to run at the same speed as quad core processors. However, this monster processor also uses up a lot of energy. The laptop comes with dual graphic cards as well, as most laptops these days. The integrated HD graphics 4600 GPU provides slightly better graphics than the average integrated graphic cards, but the main focus here is the Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M card. This graphic card is another powerhouse. With these specifications, playing modern games with ultra-high graphic requirements at full settings will not be an issue.

Thankfully, the screen does not disappoint. The 15.6 inch display has a pixel resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels providing HD clarity. Together, all these specifications make the MSI GS60 the ultimate gaming laptop. To top it off, it is one of the lightest gaming laptops of its class, weighing only 1.9 kg.

In conclusion, the MSI GS60 is definitely the go-to laptop if you are looking for a monster gaming laptop. Its lightweight build is a definite plus, but before buying this laptop, the high power consumption must be considered.

Like the Razer Blade, the Ghost plays to a specific niche: gamers who want the power of a full-fledged gaming PC without sacrificing portability or aesthetics. It's a small subset of the notebook market, but MSI's GS60 fits right in: It's thin, powerful and a joy to use. It's not perfect, though. Pitted against the Blade, the Ghost's average battery life is disappointing and its Kepler-based GPU fails to make NVIDIA's new Battery Boost feature shine.

MSI GS60-2PC-005UK

MSI has boldly commented that the MSI GS60-2PC-005UK will be their bestselling laptop in 2014 and if you look at the specifications of MSI GS60, why not? The laptop’s sleek design features a 19.9 mm thick body and weighs only 1.96 kg making it very easy to pack and carry around.

However, having mobility is not the main consideration for a gaming device. It is the components it is made with. The MSI GS60 is powered by an Intel Core i7-4700HQ processor, which provides good raw processing power up to 3.4 GHz. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M provides the graphical rendering capability to produce smooth and clear graphics. The 15.6 inch display has a FullHD resolution and excellent viewing angles which enables HD videos to be played with much clarity.

As with most MSI products, the MSI GS60’s keyboard is made in collaboration with Steel Series. It features nicely sized keys, a number pad and quiet key presses. However, the hash key is attached to Enter, maybe to accommodate with the compulsive hashtagging of youngsters these days.

With the exception of poor battery life, even when compared with gaming laptops, the MSI GS60-2PC-005UK is certainly a monster when it comes to gaming. The light portability is certainly an added benefit for gaming laptops, which slowly becomes a necessary feature to stay competitive in the market.

It may be a gaming laptop, but MSI's GS60 Ghost has a lot going for it even if you're not all that keen on games. The keyboard and screen are both excellent, and the configuration is strong, despite the overall weight of 1.96kg and the thin chassis. For the most part, a worthy product to consider if you're a gamer looking for something relatively mobile.

For anyone who has become accustomed to the thin-and-light portability of an Ultrabook, gaming laptops are now very much back in contention. Mobile systems armed with quad-core CPUs and dedicated graphics have shed the excess bulk and, courtesy of increasingly-efficient processors and other modern-day technologies, are now being delivered in Ultrabook-esque packages that are slim, relatively light and suitably powerful.

MSI GS60 2PE-626UK

This thin gaming laptop is powered by a fourth generation Intel core i7 processor and features an Nvidia GeForce graphics. It should be powerful and fast enough to handle every game thrown at it and run it well.

The GS60 is lighter and thinner than its gaming laptop competition at a mere 1.96 kg and 20 mm height. The 15.6-inch screen display at 1920 x 1080 resolution delivers vibrant colors. Two speakers and two subwoofers are placed at the bottom and deliver a great sound. The backlit keyboard that can be adjusted in multiple colors and multiple areas.

With two 128 GB solid state drives in RAID 0 configuration and a 1 TB HDD, there should be plenty of space in this gaming laptop to house a number of games. The laptop has three USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, an SD card slot, audio jacks and an Ethernet connector.

The downside of this gaming laptop is the unbearable heat that it emits during heavy gaming. The high heat prevents users from setting the laptop on their laps. The noise of the fan is distracting, too. The MSI barely lasted two hours without being plugged in on normal use (web browsing and video chat) and would not last an hour while gaming.

70% MSI GS60 2PE Ghost Pro review
Source: Trusted Reviews English
There’s plenty of power inside this machine, and MSI has squeezed top-level components into a chassis that’s slimmer and lighter than any gaming notebook we’ve yet seen. The screen and keyboard also excel, and the speakers are good. It’s a contender if rivals are expensive, but only worth a purchase if you’re going to be using it at a power source and on a desk – as poor battery life and thermal performance are the MSI’s key problems.

It is true, the machine does run rather warm, and it emits a fair level of noise under heavy, sustained load. There is absolutely nothing MSI can do about this – apart from add in more fans and increase noise levels well past 40dBA. MSI have clearly spent some time in the R&D department, balancing the heat against noise emissions. Even though the machine does get very warm under load it never suffered from throttling during our tests. If you pick one up however, we do advise that you keep the rear vents clear from any obstructions. MSI are selling several versions of the MSI GS60 2PE Ghost Pro 15.6 inch Laptop. This particular model we reviewed today, is available from Overclockers UK for £1,399.99 inc vat, although it has just sold out as we went to press. MSI did tell us that this is one of their more popular models, and it isn’t difficult to see why.

80% MSI GS60 2PE Ghost Pro review: Ultrabook-thin with a fantastic screen
Source: PC Advisor English
The MSI GS60 2PE Ghost Pro has enough power to handle current games, and it’s got the screen quality to match – and all while costing less than the Gigabyte P35W v2, which has a poorer screen but a tad more gaming power. The storage, keyboard and speakers all impress, but this slimline gaming laptop struggles for longevity and has poor thermal performance. It’s thin and impressive, but be aware about the MSI’s limitations before spending any cash.

The MSI GS60 Ghost Pro is a little gem, combining power and finesse. And given the configuration, it doesn't heat up excessively, either. MSI GS60 2PE-286UK

Impressive and powerful; these are the two words associated with the MSI GS60 2PE-286UK Ghost Pro 3K edition. MSI has claimed to have created the thinnest and lightest 15.6 inch gaming notebook while keeping the aggressive yet classy looks. Design wise the notebook fits into the standard 'MSI gaming laptop look' with its SteelSeries multi-coloured LED back light keyboard being the center of attraction.

Packed in is the latest 4th generation Intel Core i7 4710HQ processor clocked at 2.5 GHz, Nvidia GeForce GTX 870M graphics chip with 3GB GDDR5 VRAM, and the capability to install up to 16 GB DDR3 RAM. The storage space is a combination of 256 GB SSD for speed and 1 TB HDD for space. The user interacts with the 15.6 inch 3K wide-view LCD display and it is certainly delightful on the eye.

The audio quality should be awesome thanks to the Dynaudio speakers and Creative Sound Blaster Cinema 2 technology. Other hardware include a FHD type webcam, Killer E2200 LAN port, 802.11 ac Wi-Fi technology, 3 USB 3.0 ports and Bluetooth 4.0 support. The entire system is powered by a 6-cell Li-Polymer 4840 mAh battery cell.

80% MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 3K review – Nvidia GTX 970M & 870M versions
Source: Ultrabook Review English
Overall, I’m extremely pleased with the laptop, especially the 970M version. The GS60 Pro offers pretty much the best that can be offered by an Ultraportable to date. And they do it without skimping on the screen and keyboard quality. The trackpad could be a little better but it certainly isn’t keeping me from liking this machine. I’ve only spent a short time with the 970M version but I’m sure it will fill in the gaps I think was lacking in the previous version.

The MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 3K has nearly everything we want in an ultraportable gaming laptop. The slim aluminum chassis is light enough to tote around, while still feeling sturdy and looking aggressive enough for a LAN party. The performance is solid, and the high-resolution display looks great. It's not quite perfect—the battery life is a little short, and the heat issues leave us worried about toasted-leg syndrome—but it shapes up to be one of the best midrange gaming rigs we've seen yet. That's enough for it to replace the Digital Storm Krypton as our Editors' Choice for midrange gaming laptops.

Whether you settle for the FHD model or spring for 3K gaming, the MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 3K is one 15-inch gaming laptop to beat. Though, while an undoubtedly impressive feat, beyond-HD gaming is neither something I'd call a must-have feature nor will it be all that great on this series of cards come 2015 and beyond. Just don't expect the endurance of an Ultrabook from this rig. And gentlemen, for the sake of your future spawn, don't play with this thing on your lap without protection. The bottom line is that you have to decide what's most important to you. If you want a HiDPI gaming notebook with good battery life, you'll unfortunately have to give up some gaming performance (i.e. get Dell's XPS 15 with GT 750M graphics) or battery life (all of the above laptops I just mentioned deliver less than five hours of battery life).

90% MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 3K 2QE Review (Gold w/ GTX970m)
Source: Kitguru English
The MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 3K 2QE really is a gaming tour de force. Even at the native 2,880 x 1,620 resolution of the 3K panel, the GTX970m is able to generate smooth frame rates. The only caveat will be games such as Tomb Raider will need the image quality settings dialed down a little, to a notch just below maximum. On a 15.6 inch screen it is difficult to get the full value from a 3k panel. Without calling upon Windows 8.1 scaling options, desktop text is miniscule, and tricky to read. That said, a couple of scaling tweaks in the operating system can cure many legibility issues. I say many, because not all 3k/4k 15″ usability issues can be resolved via the OS.

The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
