MIUI 14: Xiaomi 12 starts receiving Android 13 update through Mi Pilot program

Xiaomi may have officially presented MIUI 14 in December, but the OS update has not made its grand introduction globally yet. At the time, Xiaomi promised that the OS update would be available from January 2023 for the Xiaomi 12 series, upon which it delivered for the Xiaomi 12 Lite. Now, Xiaomi has added the Xiaomi 12 to the short list of devices that can download MIUI 14 in one form or another, with the Xiaomi 12 Pro, MIX Fold 2, Xiaomi 12S series and Redmi K50 series also due to receive MIUI 14 before February rolls around.

As it stands, Xiaomi has only released MIUI 14 to Xiaomi 12 if it has been enrolled onto the Mi Pilot Program. According to The Update Box, Xiaomi has distributed MIUI 14 to the Xiaomi 12 as MIUI 14.0.2.0, with the build number indicative of it being particularly early on the OS’ lifespan. For reference, the update arrives with the January 2023 set of Android security patches and is a 4.45 GB download. Xiaomi recommends that people perform a full backup before upgrading from MIUI 13 to MIUI 14. The download link for MIUI 14.0.2.0 is as follows:

Typically, Mi Pilot Program builds take a few weeks before they receive a broader rollout, unless Xiaomi discovers any major bugs. While MIUI 14 is a large download, the OS should occupy less storage space than MIUI 13 once installed. MIUI 14 also allows people to uninstall more system apps than MIUI 13 does, which can be used in tandem with an automatic duplicate file finder to further reduce built-in storage usage. Allegedly, MIUI 14 loads apps up to 60% faster than MIUI 13 does too while consuming up to 22% less power, although it remains to be seen whether all the innovations shown in the Chinese version of MIUI 14 will make their way to the global edition.
