Xiaomi has officially confirmed the release date of the next version of its mobile software, MIUI. While one would expect MIUI 13 to succeed MIUI 12, the company appears to be making a brief stopover at MIUI 12.5—a skin that should be an incremental upgrade on MIUI 12.

While Xiaomi has slowly wrapped up the MIUI 12 rollout, the company is already geared to unveil the next version of its skin, in the form of MIUI 12.5. A while ago, we theorized that MIUI 12.5 would be unveiled on December 29. The company has now officially confirmed the release date of MIUI 12.5.

In a post on Weibo, Xiaomi announced that MIUI 12.5 is set to be unveiled tomorrow December 28 by 19:30. That's right on par with what we expected—that MIUI 12.5 would be revealed alongside the Mi 11 series. The Mi 11 lineup is also scheduled to be unveiled tomorrow.

Of course, releasing new software isn't the thing; ensuring that it's functional and sending it out on time is what counts, and Xiaomi has a pretty spotty record at that. With MIUI 12.5 set to roll out, we expect Xiaomi's flagships like the Mi 10 and Mi 10T series to be the first to receive the update. As for older mid-range phones like the Redmi Note 8, that's anyone's guess.
