A new leak has both given us confirmation of the refreshed design language being used for the Insta360 X5 and provided a clearer look at that new design.
The latest leak, shared by Greenyproductions on X, shows off the Insta360 X5 in a transparent display case. The new leak gives us a fresh look at the new tessellated design on the front of the Insta360 X5. This is a detail that was previously shown off in a set of leaked images, but the new leak provides a better look at just how deep these new triangular protrusions will be.
Also previously seen in leaked images of the upcoming 360 camera is what looked like an updated microphone on the side opposite the display. The newly leaked photos also confirm the new microphone design, which is located in the same place as the mic on the opposite side of the camera, but the new version features a larger opening and a fine mesh over the top of it. Given that the new mic is only present on the non-display side of the Insta360 X5, it seems likely that the new design is in pursuit of better protection against wind when the camera is used in single-lens mode as an action camera — this would likely be the side of the camera directly in the path of wind in that scenario. Insta360 also used improved wind noise reduction as one of the selling points of the Insta360 X4, so it seems logical that the X5 would build on that.
Insta360 seemingly plans to unveil its X5 360-degree camera at a pop-up event in New York's Grand Central Station on April 22.
