Huawei has introduced the Mate TV and Mate TV Pro, two new Smart TVs that are also the company's first to sport its 'Mate' branding. Unmistakably, the version of HarmonyOS and default remote included looks like Apple's tvOS and the remote Apple includes with the Apple TV 4K (curr. $179 on Amazon). However, the Mate TV and Mate TV Pro are full-blown Smart TVs, a market that Apple has not ventured into yet.
Specifically, the Mate TV comes in 65-inch, 75-inch, 85-inch and 98-inch sizes. By contrast, Huawei restricts the Mate TV Pro to 75-inch, 85-inch and 98-inch sizes. At launch, these variants cost as follows:
Mate TV
- 65-inch - CNY 8,999 (~$1,261)
- 75-inch - CNY 11,999 (~$1,681)
- 85-inch - CNY 15,999 (~$2,241)
- 98-inch - CNY 24,999 (~$3,502)
Mate TV Pro
- 75-inch - CNY 14,999 (~$2,101)
- 85-inch - CNY 21,999 (~$3,082)
- 98-inch - CNY 30,999 (~$4,343)
According to Huawei, all screen sizes utilise VA 'Soft Screen' panels with 144 Hz refresh rates, 4K native resolutions and 7,000:1 contrast ratios. Moreover, MiniLED backlights are on hand to deliver 600 nits typical brightness and 4,000 nits peak brightness for 65-inch and 75-inch variants, but 750 nits typical and 4,200 nits peak for 85-inch and 98-inch options.
Meanwhile, Huawei separates the Mate TV from the Mate TV Pro with 128 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM for the former, but 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage for the latter. On top of that, Huawei includes an extra three full-range speakers on the Mate TV Pro to complement the two full-range speakers, two tweeters and two bass drivers inside the Mate TV.
Both Smart TVs run HarmonyOS 5.1, although the Mate TV misses out on the anti-reflective coating found on all Mate TV Pro models. Also, only the Mate TV Pro comes with Huawei's multi-touch remote control that apparently uses Ultra Wide Band 2.0 (UWB 2.0) connectivity. Incidentally, this trackpad supports stylus input, has shoulder buttons and even contains a haptic feedback motor. Unfortunately, there is no word yet on international availability.
