Reviews for the Huawei P9 Plus

88.5% Huawei P9 Plus Smartphone Review | Notebookcheck
Is everything better with the Plus? The new P9 Plus from Huawei is not just a bigger version of the standard P9, the display differs completely from the smaller sibling as well. The Press Touch feature is also reserved for the Plus model.
Xiaomi MI5S Plus VS Huawei P9 Plus Design, Antutu, Camera, Battery Review
Source: Igeekphone English Archive.org version
The main difference between Xiaomi MI5S Plus and Huawei P9 Plus is in their hardware, due to Snapdragon 821 processor, it makes Xiaomi MI5S enjoy higher performance than Huawei P9 Plus, but Huawei P9 Plus still performs nice in dual camera. If you are looking for a cheaper but higher performance smartphone, Xiaomi MI5S Plus can be your first choice, but if you are more into better quality, Huawei P9 Plus will not let you down.

Huawei P9 & Huawei P9 Plus Review: First Impressions
Source: Know Your Mobile English Archive.org version
I like that there are two models, though the only difference, bar size, is to do with RAM and storage. I also like the effort, attention and innovative nature of the camera aboard both these handsets, and the fact that Huawei has kept the imaging the same on both models (take note, Apple).

Huawei's made a classy-looking phone. The sleek metal and glass design is right up there with Apple and HTC, but it doesn’t really stand out amongst the crowd. The camera is good, but it’s not fantastic. The Leica branding is more of a gimmick, and there’s a lot to take in when you open the app up for the first time. There are some quirks, too, like heavy vignetting. But photos do look good and monochrome shots look great.

If you’re in the market for a sleek, premium phablet with a great dual-camera setup, the Huawei P9 Plus is a great option. The 5.5in SuperAMOLED FHD display is bright and crisp, and shows off the detailed photos taken by the rear-facing dual 12Mp snappers. The processor is strong enough to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy S7, although it doesn’t quite compare in terms of graphical power. However, it’s worth noting that there aren’t huge differences between the P9 Plus and the flagship P9 so depending on what you want from the smartphone, it may be worth taking a look at the £100 cheaper Huawei P9. Otherwise, it’s a decent premium flagship that we’re impressed with.

Like the P9 and the Mate 8, the Huawei P9 Plus has excellent hardware, but I also like the software. It isn’t stock Android and if you want stock Android then you aren’t going to be happy with EMUI. True the UI is different, but it is still Android and you still get access to Google’s services, you can install the myriad of apps from the Play Store, and so on. What isn’t there to like?

It looks the part, is powerful enough to compete with other top-spec phones, and takes fantastic photos - even if those twin sensors can't quite topple Samsung as the king of smartphone cameras. The pressure-sensitive screen is pretty forward-thinking, too. I don't think Android is ready for this kind of tech yet, but it's great to see Huawei giving it a go now - it'll be ready when everyone else catches up.

So P9 or P9 Plus? Well, the Plus offers a slightly larger screen with "Press Touch" technology, plus better battery life and 64GB on-board storage for its £500 asking price (making it about £100 more than the standard P9). Otherwise features are largely similar, with both phones featuring the defining dual camera - which deserves high praise for the most part. Its controls are intuitive, making it easy to fine-tune your shots, the performance is very reliable, while the monochrome sensor is a quirky addition.

The P9 Plus isn’t a resounding success. It has marginally better battery life, more storage and a slightly bigger screen than the regular P9, but at £550 it finds itself comprehensively outgunned by rivals such as the Galaxy S7 or LG G5. The Leica branding and monochrome camera may be a big selling point for some people, but even if that is the case, you’re still better off with the standard P9.

The P9 Plus offers a good impression of Apple's 3D Touch with its pressure-sensitive screen, but we'd advise not getting too excited about it. Its applications are all Huawei's, so even if pressure sensitivity is the future, this is at best a very good tech demo of what's to come. Add in software that many struggle to get on with - much as we've grown accustomed to it - and this feels like a phone to hunt down when some sweet deals are available, not while it sells at full price.

Huawei’s P9 Plus is yet another 5.5-inch smartphone, a previously niche category that’s rapidly expanding in 2016 with the likes of the OnePlus 3 and Moto G4 handsets hitting UK shelves. Good news is, the P9 Plus more than holds its own thanks to the gorgeous design, effective dual-lens camera and impressive battery life, although the software could use a bit of love.

It is a little larger at 15x7.5cm and weights 20grams more. Neither of which you would probably notice unless you have the two units side by side. The P9 is an excellent camera and phone, look back and you will find two reviews of it on this site, however launched at the same time – but not immediately available - is the P9 Plus which was stated to cost £100 more so what exactly does the extra get you.

In fact, given the sheer all-round quality of the P9 it's a fantastically capable phone for the money. It's tough to argue with an attractive, capable smartphone that undercuts much of its competition on price, yet still packs in a superb camera, good performance and a whole heap of premium features. This is a huge leap forward for Huawei, and on this evidence the other big-name manufacturers should start to worry – it's not perfect, but the P9 is a force to be reckoned with.

Huawei P9 Plus review

We liked the Huawei P9 even though it had a few setbacks, so we were already decided on the Huawei P9 Plus - it was going to be likable, too. We knew the P9 Plus will treat us with an AMOLED screen, Press Touch tech, and stereo speakers in exchange for a few extra bucks, so we knew what we were getting into. Of course, we are always in for some surprises and we got a few with the Huawei P9 Plus. While confirming its beautiful design, awesome camera capabilities, snappy processor, great fingerprint scanner, and useful Emotion UI, we found a few novelties we really liked.

The P9 costs £449 SIM free and the P9 Plus is £549 inc VAT, which is very reasonable for this calibre of phone. However, you can pick it up for much less if you shop around and buy it in tandem with a PAYG or monthly SIM deal. For instance, pick up a Huawei P9 from O2 along with the PAYG deal of your choice, and the 32GB model is only £370 – that's £110 cheaper than our current favourite phone, the Huawei-built Nexus 6P, and dramatically cheaper than the other high-end smartphone rivals.

Hands on: Huawei P9 Plus review
Source: Techradar English Archive.org version
The Huawei P9 Plus is an accomplished smartphone. It's got a great feature set, impressive performance and a premium design - trouble is the competition is also excellent. In the past Huawei's flagship handsets have had a lower price than the likes of Samsung, Apple, LG, Sony and HTC, but the P9 Plus is priced at a similar level. You then have to look to see if it offers a better experience all round than our current best phone in the world, the Galaxy S7 Edge.

Huawei's true P series flagship
Source: Pocket Lint English Archive.org version
The Huawei P9 Plus offers elements above and beyond the regular model and that should give it some additional appeal. This is a fully-packed handset, carrying the novelty of that dual Leica camera on the rear. The larger 5.5-inch display is likely to be popular, but the phone's higher price could be a barrier. With an asking price of €749 (although rumour has it at £549 in the UK) this model sits a little too close in price to some of the established flagships out there.

Hands-on with the bigger Press Touch iPhone 6S Plus and Galaxy S7 edge rival
Source: Tech Advisor English Archive.org version
If a bigger screen with Press Touch and a bigger battery is what you’re looking for then the Huawei P9 Plus might be a good shout. However, it is otherwise very similar to the regular model so isn’t necessarily worth the addition 150 Euro – the main selling point is the camera co-engineered with Leica which you get on the P9. We’ll bring you a full review when we get a review sample.

Model: The P9 Plus is a 5.5 inch Android 6.0 smartphone powered by a Huawei Kirin 955 octa-core processor and 4 GB of RAM. Its elegant build is crafted mainly on aerospace-class unibody aluminium. It is boosted with not one, but two rear-facing cameras. With Leica’s co-engineered Picture Quality Algorithm, it is virtually capable of performing like a professional camera. With 7 mm it is slim and it weighs about 162 g. One outstanding feature of the P9 Plus is its superior responsiveness. Enhanced with the PressTouch technology, screen pressure may be customized to improve ease of use and interaction with the smartphone.

Connectivity on the P9 Plus is remarkable as it is equipped with a virtual triple antenna, whereby signals will not be affected by hand positions. It is further supported by a fingerprint sensor, which can be easily customized with gestures for unlocking purposes and ID recognition, thus improving security and convenience. Audio performance on the P9 Plus is equally impressive with differing listening experience at landscape or portrait mode. It comes with a 3400 mAh battery with dual AC rapid charging. In addition, it is NFC-compliant. The smartphone comes in three color variants: quartz grey, gold and ceramic white.
