Reviews for the Huawei Nova 9

85.3% Huawei nova 9 smartphone review: Without 5G but with some special camera features | Notebookcheck
With the nova 9, Huawei again tries to impress with some cleverly designed technology and particularly the camera software. At the same time, it lacks Google Services as well as support for the 5G mobile communication standard. Our review finds out what the Android smartphone can do.
Huawei nova 9 review - A more affordable HMS phone
Source: Tech Nave English
If you are comfortable using HMS but do not want to spend a large amount of money to buy a flagship phone like the HUAWEI P40, the HUAWEI nova 9 could be the right device for you. The Snapdragon 778G chipset can produce fast performance for most situations, while the 120Hz OLED screen will provide a very smooth user experience. However, with prices starting from RM1,999, you can probably get an Android phone with similar specifications at a lower price. Suitable alternatives to the HUAWEI nova 9 include the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G (RM1,899), realme GT Master Edition (RM1,499) or HONOR 50 (RM1,699). All three options have a Snapdragon 778G chipset, but don’t charge as fast as the HUAWEI nova 9.

88% Huawei nova 9 review: phone that could have been a hit
Source: Root Nation English
I like the Huawei nova 9, if I consider it exclusively as a test device. Stylish, thin, light, quite powerful, with an excellent screen, a good camera and fast charging. Many of us have missed the quality of Huawei, and the nova 9 demonstrates that the company has not forgotten how to make these very smartphones – even in the most critical of conditions. But here we come back to one of the most important drawbacks – the lack of Google services negates all the advantages of the device and condemns it to oblivion. The maximum that Huawei nova 9 can count on is popularity in narrow circles of connoisseurs, experts and fans of the brand. There is no hope for mass sales. A pity. The smartphone really came out quite good. I would even like to give it some kind of editorial award, but what’s the point? It will be more of a consolation prize than a real recommendation to buy. Therefore, I will leave the final decision to the buyers. After all, someone will definitely buy this smartphone for reasons I can’t possibly fathom. But I won’t judge, because this is a quality device, no matter what.

The Nova 9 is an affordable phone with a lot of great features, including a sharp and vibrant 50-megapixel camera, a 120Hz OLED display and an eye-catching design. There are some minor issues with the camera and lack of 5G, but the most prominent let-down here remains the AppGallery’s lack of support for some of the most popular apps and services, including pretty much everything from Google.

There’s a lot to like about the Nova 9. It looks great, the display is sharp, and the main camera is a real triumph for the price – even if the accompanying ultrawide isn’t much to write home about. But that’s still not enough to make this phone worth it for the average user. With no 5G networking and no support for the Google Play Store, the Nova 9 simply doesn’t add up for most people, especially in the fiercely competitive mid-range market. Rival devices – especially the Honor 50 – offer comparable specs without suffering from these major compromises. At a much lower price the Nova 9’s limitations might be more forgivable, but as it is this is mostly a curio for the faithful, whether that’s lovers of Huawei hardware or those intrigued by the company’s efforts to carve out its own software space. For the rest of us, there are simply better phones elsewhere.

Huawei nova 9 Review Philippines: Still Worth It?
Source: Unbox English
The Huawei nova 9 is the typical premium mid-range phone that the company releases every year as we found in our review for the Philippines, and is a good phone in 2021. However, the Philippines has seen a lot of excellent phones in the same price range get released by its competitors, and unfortunately good doesn’t cut it anymore. The absence of GMS and its pricing being what it means that its competitors have a leg up against the nova 9 as the phone heads to both Shopee, Lazada, and physical stores for the holidays.

2% Huawei nova 9 review – Sweet Starry Surprise
Source: Hitech Century English
The Huawei nova 9 was made to compete in a highly competitive category for smartphones as mid range devices aim to offer as much value at as low a price point as possible. In this regard, the nova 9 does bring in an excellent quality 120Hz OLED display, a decent set of rear quad cameras and otherwise decent endurance with 66W fast charging to back it up. The lack of Google services isn’t as big a limitation this time around with stable workarounds on offer. We weren’t furnished with the price of the nova 9 at the time of writing but if Huawei can offer this workhorse at a competitive price in Malaysia, it may well be one of the better value buys for midrange phones in 2021. Potential buyers who aren’t as hung up on needing Google apps and are looking for a smartphone with a good display and capable cameras will appreciate what the nova 9 has to offer. We can't overlook the elephant in the room - the lack of Google Mobile Services on the nova 9 specs sheet. However, as our review progressed, we learned this is not its only shortcoming, far from it. The nova 9 has a sub-par camera performance; similarly priced rivals run considerably more powerful SoCs, all the while Huawei's contender fails to impress with battery endurance. Stereo speakers and ingress protection are also popular features in the price bracket that the nova 9 fails to deliver. The slick and lightweight design and good display won't be enough to attract enough buyers. If Huawei's handset was priced lower, it might have gotten our recommendation, but for now, your hard-earned money would be spent better elsewhere. Unless you are reading this review a couple of months after it's been published, in which case the nova 9 might be in a more advantageous position price-wise.

Huawei nova 9 hands-on review
Source: GSM Arena English
The Huawei nova 9 is an interesting device in more ways than one, made more interesting still with its arrival to European markets. Just to recap some of the oddities at play here - the nova 9 runs on a Snapdragon 778G chipset, limited to just 4G connectivity. It also boots EMUI 12, instead of HarmonyOS. And, as far as we can gather, it still has an Android core, though with no Google services or apps. Both of these points are just realities Huawei currently has to deal with, particularly if it wants to retain a presence in Europe. And if nothing else, this nova 9 launch appears to be a tentative indication of such intentions going forward. Pricing for the Huawei nova 9 is set at EUR 499 for an 8GB, plus 128GB model, with preorders starting today (October 21) and official sales later this month. There was no mention of a 256GB model at the presentation, but it could be added to listings later on. As far as hardware goes, the nova 9 is actually a pretty compelling and well-rounded offer.

Although some of the users may turn their attention to this phone because of the operating system, it’s not the only considerable point to be mentioned. With the HarmonyOS 3.0 update, you can be sure of its tremendous performance. We also know this is a new operating system so many devices may support this OS. So, if you have any inclination towards this model, you can think of its wonderful screen, powerful processor, perfect cameras, and also quite satisfactory battery life with a fantastic fast charger. The combination of these features is simply amazing for any type of user, be it gamers or movie buffs. If you’re looking for alternatives, then you can definitely take a look at the Vivo X70 with a variety of features.

Series:

Huawei's phone business may be embattled due to software problems but it has not stopped making new phones. While most of them have not made it to European shores, the latest Huawei Nova 9 is an exception to this. In terms of its design, this device is still considered thin at 7.8mm and light at 175g. This definitely makes it rather portable while the curved edges keep it comfortable to be held on too. The rear camera module on the back comes in two different circles which houses the main camera and the remaining lenses. However, this model has no Gorilla Glass on the display and there is also no water or dust-resistant IP rating. As far as the display is concerned, the Huawei Nova 9 has been incorporated with a large 6.75-inch Full HD+ OLED display with high colour coverage. This is paired with an impressive 120Hz high refresh rate. In addition, there is also an under-display fingerprint reader, which can be quite fast and reliable. In terms of its performance, this is a firmly mid-range device which uses the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G chipset paired with an 8GB of RAM with either 128GB or 256GB of storage. It is undeniable that this is not the fastest or most powerful phone on the market, but it has got more than enough power for the average user. The performance is rather smooth and fluid even when multi-tasking, and there is enough power to run any modern smartphone game too.

In terms of its battery, the Huawei Nova 9 comes in with a 4300mAh battery which is enough for the phone to last a day’s use fairly comfortably, but definitely not enough to stretch it to two days unless for an exceptionally light usage. Fundamentally that makes the battery life fairly average for the modern market as there are phones with better battery life out there, but this is obviously not the worst though. As for its camera, this smartphone carries a 50MP main camera, 8MP ultrawide camera, 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. The main camera being encased in its own circular housing, utilizes Huawei's RYYB pixel arrangement which the company prefers especially for low light performance. However, in this device it is not combined with optical image stabilization (OIS) which is key to really excellent night photography. Overall, in daylight the main camera is exceptional with rich colours and vivid detail in a range of conditions. Though in darker lighting results are good, the lack of OIS does show. Apart from that, the ultrawide does the job in decent lighting, but there is a marked drop in detail compared to the main lens while colours tend to be washed out. There is also a 32MP selfie camera which is quite decent. Overall, it is a great phone to be considered if the absence of Google Mobile services is not an issue.

Qualcomm Adreno 642L: Graphics chip for smartphones and tablets that is integrated within the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G SoC. Qualcomm claims that it is 40% faster than the Adreno 620.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

SD 778G 5G: Fast mid-range ARM SoC with 8 CPU Kryo 670 cores (four fast ARM Cortex-A78 core at up to 2.4 GHz and four small ARM Cortex-A55 cores at up to 1.8 GHz) and an integrated X53 5G modem (up to 3300 Mbps download). The SoC is manufactured in the modern 6 nm process at TSMC.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

6.57":

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.

Huawei: Huawei Technologies Co, Ltd. is a Chinese telecommunications company and hardware manufacturer founded in 1987 and headquartered in Shenzhen. Huawei is a global leader in information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices. Huawei provides end-to-end solutions for telecommunications networks, devices, and smartphones, as well as storage, servers, networking, and cloud computing enterprise solutions and products.

In 2014, Huawei established the Honor subsidiary brand under which certain smartphone lines are sold. The Huawei name is usually not listed for these products.

71.63%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
