Hogwarts Legacy trailer surges past 10 million views on the official PlayStation channel even though it's not a PS5 exclusive

Hogwarts Legacy has become one of the most popular video clips on the PlayStation YouTube channel as millions of gamers and Harry Potter/Wizarding World fans alike revel in the fact that they will soon be able to roam in an open-world action RPG based in the world-famous magical setting. At the time of writing, the official reveal trailer for Hogwarts Legacy had already crossed the 11-million views mark, with footage being captured on the PS5.

At the moment, the most-watched PS5 game is Spider-Man: Miles Morales on 16 million, while Marvel’s Spider-Man for the PS4 has 25 million views, which is the most for a software-related clip. A promo for the PS4 hardware on 39 million views remains the most popular video on the channel, although it's easy to believe that the legions of Harry Potter fans could eventually send Hogwarts Legacy beyond that incredible figure.

What also needs to be taken into account here is that Hogwarts Legacy is not a PS5 exclusive; the game will be made available on the next-gen rival from Microsoft, on previous generation consoles, and on Windows. While it is generally accepted that exclusives can make or break a console, titles such as Hogwarts Legacy that tap into a massive fanbase but also offer the promise of a high-quality production with immersive gameplay can generate huge interest even as a cross-platform game.

In fact, games inspired by quality IPs, such as Wizarding World, have the potential to help both Microsoft and Sony sell next-gen consoles to those who aren’t usually hardcore console gamers but are fans of the particular franchise. Hogwarts Legacy has been in development since at least 2018 when some early images of the game were leaked online. Developer Avalanche Software is owned by Warner Bros (acquired from Disney in 2017) and has a long history with creating movie tie-in games. It's safe to say there are some very high hopes for this latest potentially spellbinding adventure.
