The HP Pavilion g7-1033cl laptops performs as well as the best of its budget priced peers, and while it's not as cheap as some alternatives, Costco includes perks that more than make up for the difference in cost.

With it's 17-inch screen, 640GB hard drive, and Intel Core i3 processor, you may find that the HP Pavilion g7-2160us offers exactly what you need, even if it's missing a few forward-thinking features. Between the two-toned styling, nearly five hours of battery life, and decent all around performance, the g7-2160us will pique your interest. If you want more portability and a fuller feature set while still staying within your budget, try the Editors' Choice for budget laptops, the Asus U56E-BBL5.

For those looking at a low cost laptop but don't want to suffer from a small screen with low resolution, the HP Pavilion g7-2220us is an extremely attractive option that is priced under $600 dollars. Performance is not going to be a huge factor here but if it is just being used for basic tasks it works just fine. It would also be nice to see HP cut down on the amount of applications that it loads into the operating system as Windows 8's start screen is cluttered with various tiles.

HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.
In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Onboard graphics card that is built in the new Arrandale CPUs (Core i3 / i5 / i7 Dual Cores). Depending on the model and Turbo Boost, the GMA HD is clocked between 166 and 766 MHz.
ATI Radeon HD 4250: Onboard graphics card (in the RS880M chipset) for AMD processors with Avivo HD support and technically a higher clocked HD 4200.
Intel HD Graphics 3000: Integrated graphics card in the Intel Sandy Bridge processors (Core ix-2xxx). The HD 3000 is the faster (internally GT2 called) version with 12 Execution Units (EUs).
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
AMD Radeon HD 6470M: Entry to middle class graphics card based on the Seymore XT codename featuring the UVD3 video processor.
AMD Radeon HD 6540G2: Dual Graphics (asymmetrical CrossFire) combination of a dedicated Radeon HD 6450M or 6470M and a 6520G APU graphics card (in the processor core of the A-Series).
AMD Radeon HD 7520G: Processor graphics card that is built into the Trinity A6 series APUs from AMD (e.g. A6-4400M). Based on the VLIW4 architecture of the Radeon HD 6900 desktop series.
Intel HD Graphics 4000: Processor graphics card in the high end Ivy Bridge models. Offers a different clock speed in the different CPU models (ULV to desktop quad core) and therefore a different performance.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
AMD Radeon HD 7670M: Renamed Radeon HD 6650M and therefore still produced in 40nm.

Intel Core i3:
380M: The Core i3-380M is a fast clocked Core i3. The TurboBoost, AES, VTd, and Trusted Execution functions are deactivated in the i3-series. Therefore, it always clocks with max. 2.53 GHz (of course Speedstep is included). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
2330M:
Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.2 GHz and features the Turbo Boost 2.0 only for the graphics card (650/1100MHz).
Intel Core i5:
480M: The Core i5-480M has only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-620M) and clocks between 2.66-2.9 GHz (Turbo Mode). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
2410M:
Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.3 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.6-2.9 GHz) and the GPU at 650 (1200 MHz Turbo).
3210M: Fast Ivy-Bridge-based dual-core, includes HD 4000 GPU, core clock 2.5 - 3.1 GHz
AMD Athlon II:
P360: Entry level dual core processor for 13"+ laptops featuring a DDR3 memory controller.
AMD A-Series:
A6-3400M: Llano quad-core APU clocked at 1.4-2.3 GHz (Turbo Core) featuring an integrated Radeon 6520G (320 cores, 400MHz) graphics card.
A6-4400M: Dual-Core APU of the Trinity line with an integrated Radeon HD 7520G graphics card.

2.7 kg:
With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
3 kg:
70.7%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
