The HP Pavilion g6 is a solid choice for those in search of a budget notebook for basic use, including Internet surfing and Microsoft Office. Its highlights include good performance, almost five hours of battery life, a cool operating temperature, and decent build quality. The downsides are minor but notable; my number one complaint is the over-the-top use of glossy plastic, which turns the notebook into an eyesore and compromises durability. Furthermore, the keyboard could have had a better feel and the display panel could be sturdier. Lastly, the speakers are poor even by notebook standards.

HP’s Pavilion g6 is a solid laptop that, on the basis of build quality, can compete with some costing twice as much. The keyboard deserves particular praise, as it’s rare to find such a comfortable and robust set of keys on an inexpensive laptop. While the hardware isn’t the latest and greatest, it is sufficiently quick for anyone who doesn’t intend to play 3D games or run processor-intensive software.

In hip-hop culture, the G6 is the ultimate status symbol: specifically, the Gulfstream G6, a big, fast, and super-ritzy business jet. The HP Pavilion g6 comes with a budget price, as well as good performance, reasonable battery life, and excellent audio, making for a surprisingly good choice for budget buyers.

The HP Pavilion g6 is a good budget notebook. While there aren’t a ton of standout features and extras, it also doesn’t have any major issues. Budget notebooks need to cut corners somewhere to come in at an affordable price and HP chose the right places to trim when they made the g6. Students and average home users in need of an affordable notebook should look at the g6, especially as part of back to school and Black Friday promotions.

The HP Pavilion g6 is, above all things, totally average. It's definitely not a performance machine, or a sexy piece of art, but if you're just looking for a decent laptop for Web surfing, word processing, and lightweight photo editing, it's a pretty good deal. The only real drawback I see is battery life--HP says you'll get 5.5 hours, but we managed to get only 4 usable hours out of the g6's battery in our testing.

From its sleek design to its strong performance, the HP Pavilion g6-1a69us is certainly a leader in the current crop of budget laptops. If you're looking for a good general-use laptop, the g6-1a69us is worth considering, but don't discount the HP Pavilion g7-1033cl, which offers similar performance with a larger 17-inch display, or the Editors' Choice HP Pavilion dv6-6013cl, which takes top honors for its class-leading construction, second-gen Intel processor, and battery life.

Though it wasn't much to look at, we've always thought HP's line of non-Pavilion G-series laptops were decent for bargain hunters at the very low end of the price scale. We've always thought HP's unbranded G-series laptops were worth a look for bargain hunters. The latest version gets a design upgrade and keeps the price down, but is stuck with last year's CPU and graphics.

As with all HP computers it seems, this one comes with lots of pre-installed software, including trialware and bloatware. There are a few useful HP utilities and services, like HP CloudDrive that provides 2GB of free online data storage. However there is also a 60-day trial of Norton Internet Security 2011 and a trial of Microsoft Office 2010. Other software includes Cyberlink PowerDVD 9, HP Music Store, HP Games, Snapfish Picture and many toolbars and links for online services are also included.

The HP Pavilion g6x provides a solid computing experience for an aggressive $544 price. The Core i3 processor has plenty of muscle for multitasking, the keyboard is comfy, and the speakers deliver suprisingly good sound. We also like that the g6x is fairly portable for a 15-inch notebook, and that it's available in multiple colors. In this price range we give a slight edge to the Samsung RV511 because it has a sleeker design and an easier-to-use touchpad. But but if you're looking for a laptop that offers better audio in a more compact package, along with more configuration options, you can't go wrong with the Pavilion g6x.

HP's new Pavilion g6-1a69us budget laptop offers an average level of features and performance in a budget class laptop with a list price of $630. Thankfully, it can be found for under $600 that makes it one of the more affordable one the market. It doesn't really have any truly standout features beyond the inclusion of LightScribe support for the DVD burner and the availability of some models with a bit more color.

The HP Pavilion G6-1C77NR is a solid 15-inch laptop that offers good performance, a budget price and decent specifications. It also has a very comfortable, well-designed keyboard. While the display does have rather narrow viewing angles, most users should find everything else about this HP laptop to be satisfactory.

For $499, the HP Pavilion g6-1c77nr is a great laptop for bargain hunters. TheClick to Enlarge design has a more premium look and feel than its price tag would suggest, and we found the keyboard comfortable to use. Our only gripes are the display's narrow vertical viewing angles and the lack of a dedicated number pad. In this price range some may prefer the Gateway NV55C54u, which offers slightly better performance and longer battery life but a chintzier faux-wood finish and a smaller touchpad. Overall, the g6 remains one of our top budget laptops, but we suggest spending just a little more for a second-generation Core i3 processor inside the g6t model.

Good and cheap? The Pavilion g6-1352eg is particularly striking due to its attractive price. HP manufactures a 15 inch multimedia device for EUR 500 that has two graphics cards (CrossFire) in addition to a dual core CPU right away. Is the AMD hardware a match for the Intel and Nvidia competition?

For the price of $349 that I got this g6-2123us laptop for at Amazon.com you really can’t beat what you get. Sure, it’s no premium model laptop that’s going to turn heads or win you kudos, but if you’re not a fashionista and just want something functional the g6 can fit that bill. Those who want a cheap laptop and are on a budget but still want something decently built and with ok looks might be drawn to this g6 model.

The HP Pavillion g6 is a solid product, which has a good mix of performance as well as value-for-money. Most users would opt for a 14-inch or 15-inch notebook for around Rs. 35,000 but spending that little more in the case of the HP Pavilion g6 means you get a more solid graphics performance. Of course, if you’re only looking for regular browsing and the occasional HD movie playback, you could do without it.

HP's Pavilion g6-1d80nr differs from most because it uses an AMD Fusion processor. While it doesn't have as high of performance as Intel based laptops at this price point, it does offer better graphics performance which may be useful for some buyers. It also features more storage space than others at this price point but it does lack the USB 3.0 ports found on many new laptops used for high speed external storage.

It can handle heavy editing software such as Photoshop, and can easily double up as a decent entry-level gaming laptop as well. Plus, it also has good audio quality making it an ideal multimedia notebook on a budget.

The HP Pavilion g6t-2000 is a fantastic budget laptop that offers good performance, a flashy design and good sounding audio. The battery life is sub par, however, and the graphics performance could definitely be better. For the sub-$500 price tag, it is still a great buy.

Priced at $454, the HP Pavilion g6z-2200 is a feature-rich notebook at a budget price. The keyboard and touchpad are also comfortable. Overall, the Pavilion g6z-2200 is a strong choice for those on a tight budget.

HP's Pavilion g6-2226nr offers a number of improvements over the past revision but its keyboard and trackpad are the most notable. It is one of the best laid out keyboards in this budget class of system. The AMD processor may still lack some performance behind Intel in many tasks but it still pulls ahead when it comes to graphics and the new processor has added some extra running time as well.

The HP Pavilion G6-2368CA ($499.99 list CAD) is an affordably priced and relatively well-equipped laptop that gives the average user interested in exploring Windows 8 a decent option. The HP Pavilion G6-2368CA is a budget laptop with a relatively good feature set, but its AMD APU keeps it behind its Intel-equipped competition on performance.

With its affordable price tag and decent feature set, the HP Pavilion G6-2368CA gives average users a decent option for jumping into Windows 8 without breaking the bank. While its AMD processor offers so-so performance, it's partially remedied by useful perks like a spacious hard drive and large display. Casual users should give it a chance, but only after exploring other options first.

The HP Pavilion G6-2248CA ($449.99), available in Canada, is a good, not great, buy for the price. It’s a full-featured 15.6-inch laptop for under $475. It has decent battery life, but otherwise has mediocre performance numbers. The HP Pavilion G6-2248CA is a full-featured laptop with good battery life and a low price. But performance is mediocre even for a budget laptop.

The HP Pavilion G6-2248CA is a decent, if unexciting value laptop. It's got the battery power to last you through most of a school day, plus its price tag won't leave you gasping for air. Take a look at the system if you really need to save money over all other concerns, but note that buying a system with extra performance oomph will cost a bit more (about $50 more).

Compared to the much more stylish HP Pavilion DV6, the G6 is something of an ugly duckling, albeit one with significantly more powerful components inside. However, when it comes to real-world tests, there isn’t very much separating the two. If you have multi-threaded applications that can make the most of its quad-core processor then the G6 may perform better, but the cheaper DV6 seems a better buy overall. If you can still find one to pick up, it's definitely worth a shot, especially considering its cheap price. Still undecided? Check out our Best Laptop 2016 buying guide to help you choose which laptop is best for you.

HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.
In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Onboard (shared Memory) GPU built in the GM45, GE45 and GS45 chipset (Montevina). Because of two more shaders and a higher core clock, much faster than the old GMA X3100. Still not advisable for gamers (DirectX 10 games not playable or only with very low settings). The integrated video processor is able to help decode HD videos (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) , e.g., for a fluent Blu-Ray playback with slow CPUs.
Intel HD Graphics 3000: Integrated graphics card in the Intel Sandy Bridge processors (Core ix-2xxx). The HD 3000 is the faster (internally GT2 called) version with 12 Execution Units (EUs).
AMD Radeon HD 6480G: Integrated processor graphics card (in the A4-Series of Llano APUs) without dedicated graphics memory and only 240 of the 400 shader cores. Beware, the version in the 3305M only features 160 shader cores but at a higher core clock.
AMD Radeon HD 6520G:
Integrated processor graphics card (in the A6-Series of Llano APUs) without dedicated graphics memory and only 320 of the 400 shader cores.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Onboard graphics card that is built in the new Arrandale CPUs (Core i3 / i5 / i7 Dual Cores). Depending on the model and Turbo Boost, the GMA HD is clocked between 166 and 766 MHz.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
AMD Radeon HD 6470M: Entry to middle class graphics card based on the Seymore XT codename featuring the UVD3 video processor.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M: Entry level graphics card based on the new GF119 chip with a 64 Bit memory bus or on the GF108 with 128 Bit memory bus but lower clock rates.
AMD Radeon HD 6480G + HD 7450M Dual Graphics: Asymmetric Crossfire combination of the Radeon HD 6480G processor graphics card and a dedicated Radeon HD 7450M. The performance is only in some games better than the single graphic card and may suffer from micro stuttering.
AMD Radeon HD 6620G + HD 7450M Dual Graphics: Dual Graphics (asymmetrical CrossFire) combination of a dedicated Radeon HD 7450M and a 6620G processor graphics card (in the processor core of the A-Series). Only in some cases faster than the dedicated GPU alone and furthermore it sometimes suffers from micro stuttering.
AMD Radeon HD 7520G: Processor graphics card that is built into the Trinity A6 series APUs from AMD (e.g. A6-4400M). Based on the VLIW4 architecture of the Radeon HD 6900 desktop series.
AMD Radeon HD 7660G: Processor graphics card that is built into the Trinity A10 series APUs from AMD. Based on the VLIW4 architecture of the Radeon HD 6900 desktop series.
AMD Radeon HD 7420G: Processor graphics card that is built into the Trinity A4 series APUs from AMD (e.g. A4-4300M). Based on the VLIW4 architecture of the Radeon HD 6900 desktop series.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
AMD Radeon HD 7670M: Renamed Radeon HD 6650M and therefore still produced in 40nm.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M:
Multiple models based on various chips of the Fermi generation. Specifically, the GT 630M exists in GF108/GF106/GF116 variants, but are all essentially renamed GeForce GT 540M or 555M GPUs. A 28nm GF117 variant exists as well with reduced power consumption.
AMD Radeon HD 7660G + HD 7670M Dual Graphics: Dual Graphics (asymmetrical CrossFire) combination of a dedicated Radeon HD 7670M and a 7660G processor graphics card (in the processor core of the A-Series). Only in some cases faster than the dedicated GPU alone and furthermore it sometimes suffers from micro stuttering.
AMD Radeon HD 7520G + HD 7670M Dual Graphics: Dual Graphics (asymmetrical CrossFire) combination of a dedicated Radeon HD 7670M and a 7520G processor graphics card (in the processor core of the A-Series). Only in some cases faster than the dedicated GPU alone and furthermore it sometimes suffers from micro stuttering.

With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
74.25%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
