Surprisingly enough, this configuration costs almost 50% more from HP's official store, so the Walmart discount is quite hefty. Other specs include 16 GB DDR5-5600 RAM, 1 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD storage. and a 16-inch IPS display with 1920 x 1200 resolution and 165 Hz refresh rate. Port selection is missing Thunderbolt 4 and a card reader.

Some of the recently introduced RTX 5050-powered laptops are now on sale with the back to school promotions and one of the better deals comes from Walmart with the HP Omen 16-inch gaming model that is available for only $849. According to the Walmart product page, this amounts to a $550 discount, but if we check the HP store, these exact specs are currently selling for $1,609.99, so the discount would be almost 50% at Walmart. It is not really clear how this model is selling for that much at HP, since the specs are essentially entry-level gaming and would not be priced at more than $1,200. This promotion can secure a free Battlefield 6 copy if the product is registered by September 30.

Nevertheless, the $849 price point is quite enticing for a 16-inch model. Highlights for this HP Omen 16 configuration include the Intel Core Ultra 5 225H processor with 14 cores boosting to 4.9 GHz and the Nvidia RTX 5050 dGPU  that comes with 8 GB of VRAM. The CPU is complemented by 16 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM, the bare minimum these days, but users can upgrade the capacity. Storage is handled by a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, that can be upgraded as well.

On the display side we find a 16-inch 1920 x 1200 IPS panel with 60 - 165 Hz variable refresh rate, 3 ms response time and 100% sRGB color gamut. Above it there is a 1080p webcam with temporal noise reduction and dual array mic.

Port selection is probably the only downside of this configuration, as it does not offer Thunderbolt 4 connectors. It only includes a USB-C 3.2 10 Gbps connector with power and DP 1.4 video modes, a USB-A 3.2 10 Gbps, 2x USB-A 3.2 5 Gbps, and HDMI 2.1 video out, combo audio jack and a 1 GbE jack. Wireless connectivity is provided through a Wi-Fi 6E + BT 5.3 card.

This configuration also comes with a 4-zone RGB backlit keyboard, DTS:X Ultra-compatible sound system with dual speakers, a 70 Wh battery with quick recharge and a Windows 11 Home license. The laptop has a 0.78-0.89-inch profile and weighs 5.35 lbs.
