Last month, a leaker revealed the names of upcoming smartphone models from HMD. The leak revealed there will be an HMD Skyline 2 alongside a second model called the HMD Skyline 2 GT. Now, the same source has revealed the key specs of the second generation Skyline phones.
Posted on X by HMD-Meme's (@smashx-60), the HMD Skyline 2 and HMD Skyline 2 GT will have some similar specifications, but the GT model will be the better device overall. The two phones will have a 6.55-inch FHD+ pOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate like the original HMD Skyline (available on Amazon for $499.99). However, the new Skyline models will have brighter screens — a peak brightness of 1200 nits for the Skyline 2 and 2000 nits for the Skyline 2 GT which is double that of last year's model.
The Skyline 2 GT will be powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 like the new Honor 400 while the Skyline 2 will swap the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 of its predecessor for the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. The GT model will have 12GB of RAM but there's no mention of the RAM of the standard Skyline 2 model nor the available storage options.
For the cameras, the Skyline 2 will retain the camera configuration of the HMD Skyline which is made up of a 108MP primary rear camera, a 50MP telephoto camera, and a 13MP ultrawide angle camera. It will also have 50MP front-facing camera. On the other hand, the Skyline 2 GT will launch with a 108MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto camera, a 50MP ultrawide angle camera, and a 3D ToF sensor. The front-facing camera will also be a 50MP sensor.
The HMD Skyline 2 GT will also have a dedicated camera button and quick button. It is not clear if these are two separate buttons in addition to the volume and power buttons or if it is just one extra button that doubles as a quick button and a camera button. The HMD Skyline has an extra button on the left called the custom button which can be programmed to different actions depending on whether you hold or double-press it. The two phones will have stereo speakers and magnetic wireless charging.
The two phones will have a 5,000mAh battery with support for Qi 2.0 wireless charging. However, while the Skyline 2 will charge up to 33W with a wired charger, the Skyline 2 GT will support 45W fast wired charging. The GT model will also have an IP67 dust and water resistance rating while the Skyline 2 will have an IP54 rating.
They will also run Android 15 out of the box, and according to the source, the Skyline 2 will receive 3 years of OS upgrades. There's also Gen2 repairability which means owners will be able to fix broken parts themselves without the need to take it to a repair shop. The HMD Skyline 2 is expected to launch in July, but it isn't known if it will be announced together with the Skyline 2 G or separately.
